Looking at ordering some chargers off monoprice. Anyone know if this cord will fit the phone:

Anyone rooted their phone yet? I'm decided whether it's even that advantageous to do it.

What phone? That's a micro USB which is good for most phones.

Galaxy S3. I'm assuming it'll fit, but want to double check.

Ya I use a longer but similar monoprice cable to charge my S3 depending on what room I'm in.

I'll be using the 4S and S3 together (switching SIMs is really easy, I love it), and probably still upgrade to the new iPhone in the fall.

As an iPhone user since 2008, it's nice to use a phone with a different OS for a bit.

Cool phone. Just a bit confusing as far as the OS.

When does Jelly Bean come out for it?
Does that work? My S3 has the new micro Sim, I didn't think the 4S was micro.

If you don't mind the extreme amount of time put into understanding what you're doing, then it is a must do for phones me thinks.

And both the 4S/S3 use a micro sim.

Winamp for android is great. It's what i use for music on my S3. Winamp will also import your itunes playlist so you don't neccessarily have to use doubletwist.

I prefer Google Music. Having it all in the cloud is so that I can decide what I want to listen to at any time is too convenient.

Also very easy to cache albums so that you don't always need an internet connection or to use data.

It's a bit of work to get it on your phone but doesn't require rooting or anything like that.

Hey guys...strongly considering an S3 after four years with various iPhones. I just have a couple questions (maybe these are Android questions...I'm not sure).

Is there a "Find my iPhone" equivalent so I can locate the phone if it gets lost?

I'm assuming there is a way to buy music from the phone...does it come in as an MP3 or some other PITA format like Apple?

My Apple phone works really well, I'm just bored with it and don't think it's as interesting as an S3. Can I expect very good phone reliability or am I opening myself to being annoyed and having to maintain an android phone more?

Is there an iMessage equivalent? My friends and I group text for basically every plan we make and I'm pretty sure they'll forsake me if I can't be included in group texts.

TIA!

1) Cerberus. Costs $3.60 or something like that but has been THE best one I've seen.

2) Couldn't tell you. :/

3) This isn't so clear cut to answer. Reliable in what way? That it'll work the way you want it to every time? That it won't crash and reboot repeatedly? Android you can put in more effort into for not just superficial customization but also making the functionality something that you agree with. But if we're talking phone out of the box, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Most iPhone users I found, whether they agree with Android or not, are impressed with the speed.

4)AFAIK, there isn't. Aside from apps like Viber, Whatsapp, etc. Android doesn't have anything like that. Either group SMS or using a giant fb convo like what my friends do would work but who knows how receptive your friends will be to switching to include the black sheep?

I got curious about group messaging after reading this thread. Apparently you can reply to a group with the Handcent SMS app for android. So hopefully that would work almost the same as being in the imessage group, other than sending a text instead of using data?

Thanks man! Yeah the reliability question was more about out of the box. You know how blackberry touch screen phones suck major balls? I just don't want that haha.

Doh... I think Adobe/Flash took down the market place app for flash earlier this week. It is no longer going to be available... I'm sure you can find the APK somewhere...

I'm not sure what this means... seems like Flash may be becoming a thing of the past. HTML 5 ftw?

Official Android Flash support ended yesterday or the day before. A quick search should get you the .apk you need. Flash is not supported on JB but you can sometimes get it to work.

So my wife wanted a new phone because she was using a BB 9700 for a couple of years now and finally said she wanted something she could browse the web on and facebook, etc. She also wanted a touch only device. It was an early upgrade for her, so we had to pay some fees as well as whatever the cost of the phone is.

She was going to wait for the next iPhone, but wasn't really sure she wanted iOS because she had seen me with Android for so long and messed around with my phones and liked the interface. We went and got her the Galaxy S2 because it was cheaper than a newer device to upgrade to. She liked it, but it seemed like she was a little distraught over the fact that she didn't get a brand new device after waiting for years to get one. So then we saw a BB flyer that stated she could get the HTC One X for $0. We returned the Galaxy S2 to the Rogers store we got it from and went to BB. Turns out, that offer was only good for "new" clients. Ugh. So we got it anyway and after mail in rebate, the phone would be $99. She used that for a day, but was missing some of the ways the Galaxy S2 did things and wasn't a huge fan of the HTC Sense interface as well as the white phone. So, we went back to BB, returned the HTC One X and got her the Galaxy S3. It was $159 after mail in rebate.

Long story short, she's damn happy with the phone. Loves it in fact. I have to admit, it's a pretty nice phone and peppy as hell. She's happy, which means I'll be happy.

I was in exactly the same position as you one month ago. Moved from the 4S to the S3.

There's a lot to like about the S3, but the quality of the hardware and the battery life don't compete with Apple. The homescreens are more fun to customize... But the phone app is a convoluted disaster.

What I've realized the past few weeks is I replaced a beautiful phone in the 4S, and have spent my time trying to replace the setup I had on my iPhone. Doing that has made the phone unusable because of how fast the battery drains.

If I were you, I'd really think about whether I want to replace a phone that's worked for me for the past number of years because I want something new just for the sake of it. At least wait until the next iPhone comes out next month to make your decision. Not waiting potentially has a lot more regret.
