Default Women drivers

My pet peeve… women drivers and their seeming lack of courtesy when it comes to allowing someone to merge or change lanes in front of them…

Now don’t get me wrong… I think that overall women drivers tend to be safer drivers than men. But this one failing (I have no scientific evidence for this… just personal observation) bugs the hell out of me.

Many a time I have tried to change lanes in heavy traffic and most times it goes quite smoothly… except for the few times when you get that obstinate driver who refuses to allow you in even though your signal light has been flashing away for quite some time and they can’t help but see it unless they are totally oblivious to the surrounding traffic. 9 times out of 10 (or at least it seems like it), that driver tends to be female. It’s like they’re saying that this is their space and they’re not giving it up for anybody! Butinskys not allowed!

I’m sure we have all experienced that situation where you are travelling in a merge lane, speeding up to match the traffic flow speed with an eye on your ever decreasing merge lane, you are at the correct speed and you are sitting beside an opening just waiting for it to increase in size ever so slightly so you can slide right in effortlessly! … and does it happen? Nope … the idiot driver on you rear quarter panel refuses to back off just a bit to let you in and the next thing you know you are running out of merge land and you are hitting the brakes. The sex of that idiot driver? Guess.
One time I personally witnessed a female driver do this to a cop. She refused to make way for him while he was trying to merge onto south Crowfoot Trail and he ended up running out of merge lane and driving onto the grass shoulder. Needless to say the red and blue lights came on and off he was in pursuit.

What is it with women and their seeming lack of courtesy towards their fellow driver when it comes to giving way? Is it because women grew up having doors opened for them or being allowed to go first that they just haven’t developed that type of courtesy that good driving demands?

One final note. When allowing someone to merge in front of me, and I’m thinking in particular of a specific off ramp used to get off of Deerfoot, where traffic volume is always high, the driver, if they are male, usually always waves his appreciation to me. Women rarely do the same.

Ok… go ahead… call me sexist or misogynistic or whatever.. It’s not true though. I love women… I just don’t like some aspects of their driving.

I have never noticed this corelation with women. The only gender based one i have noticed is being tentative to pass undivided highways.

Driver experiecence seems to be the determining factor in most other issues

Insert the usual single line drive by from KV that does nothing to contribute to the thread other then subject us to his witty sense of humor here.

I've noticed that most of the time it's because the woman isn't paying attention. They're tunnel visioned to look forward so they are oblivious of their surroundings. Many times I've forcefully cut in after they seemingly refuse to let me in only to see this surprised expression from them. It's like they only noticed me once I was in front of them.

I like how he uses the "I'm not a racist/misogynist/bigot but..." at the end of his bigotry instead of the usual prefacing it at the start.

I actually give him points for originality for going with the "I'm not a (fill in the blank), but...." at the end. It makes you read the whole thing, because had he started with "I'm not a (fill in the blank), but....", we all know where it would go and thus wouldn't have to read it. But I suppose the thread title basically gives away where this was going anyways.
