In 20 years or so America will be coming in with the China flag anyways (since China will own them by that point when they call in their debt), so this is just a sign of things to come.

Not at all. I cheer for other places. Remember, that he is not a spectator. He is part of the US Olympic team. If he want to wave his flag in support of Mexician athletes at an event other than his....go ahead. But when you are out there wearing the uniform of the country that took you win, and funded you dream....well have some courtesy.
Thing is he didn't just have a mexico flag, he had both.
He is proud of being an American and is proud of his Mexican heritage, he should not be obligated to just wave the American flag since he is part of the U.S. Olympic team.
My general thought process was that Canada was a place where you could still be proud of the country you came from (thus the flag waving of Italians at St. Francis) and the USA was the place you were expected to become "one of them".

..........and this is where we disagree....which is fine......without your incorrect opinion, my couldn't be correct....
Is this the guy who licks his fingers and makes 'mini crosses' all over his body? What is the reason for this (me not being relgious at all)? It looked awfully strange to see.

Melting Pot vs. Assimilation. This was always the way I've seen it as well.
Canadians are proud of our multiculturalism, Murica tries to hide it. Truth be told, neither nation could/would have survived without immigration.
There is a large hypocrisy here, as St. Patrick's Day in a place like Boston everyone is clad in green and sporting the shamrock. They are American's paying homage to their roots, just like this young man was attempting.

That's why America is better than you though. We are one giant homogenous force that can't be messed with.
You should accept the country you were raised in as your own, and be grateful for the opportunities it presented you growing up and show your appreciation and pride when representing it.
You're saying that politcal boundaries trump all, and I think most people agree. They are tangible for the most part.
Not everyone sees it that way though. Mexicans in particular put a lot of emphasis on the cultural border. Historically, Mexico included parts of Texas, California and a few other states. To many of them, being of Mexican nationality and being born there makes you Mexican.
And then the issue becomes more complicated when you consider diasporas.
I do agree that people should grateful for the opportunities provided to them by their country though.
