I tried watching the Olympics this year but just couldn't enjoy it because of the inconsistencies by the referees/judges on all sports. So far the only sports I enjoyed watching in the Olympics is the Track and Field 100m, 200m and so on by both Men's and Women's. Soccer, terrible reffing, Boxing, the worst reffing. As for Canada, they are not competitive enough or the olympians who supposed to fight for medals gets injured, choked or whatever reason.

Then you've got your sports that are judged but not quite as actively, track, swimming etc.

But no matter which category, an incompetent or crooked judge/ref can and frequently do effect the outcome.

Well the problem with this game in particular is that these are not professional refs, and are not really accountable if they make mistakes. If an NHL referee consistently makes bad calls he won't be allowed to ref the playoffs, or could be fired altogether. Then you have most of the Olympic referee's who won't face any discipline and can just move on after calling a brutal game.

Maybe they need to start bringing in professional referee's from The Premiership or whatever, start paying them and hold them accountable for their actions. Also then they would have the experience to not make stupid judgments or bogus calls that real referee's would not call in the same situation.

If a professional referee called yesterday's game the proper calls would have been made, which would have given us a warning for holding the ball too long, and not the ridiculous call this moron made.

Having amateur referee's is fine for kids soccer games, but using them in the Olympics is not the right way to go anymore. That was the biggest game in Canadian women's soccer history, and the referee may have cost us the game.

But here's the thing, there are components in boxing that are not judged. Like 3 fouls = 1 point penalty. The ref clearly made the 'dunking a guy under water" motion 3 times which HAS TO BE a point penalty. I hope Canada goes hard at appealing this. Russ Anber is probably down there right now going Ozzie Guillen on some volunteer.

Does anyone know if any of the Canadian soccer players have been suspended? I don't blame them for piping up about the refereeing in that game, two horrible calls in a row.

The German who won the discus event had the best gold medal celebration of the Olympics.

I would say there is an excellent chance that Sinclair gets suspended, actually. Calling out the integrity of the sport to the media is a pretty heinous crime in most sporting organizations. Even if the organization has no integrity to begin with.

If Sinclair is suspended, should we boycott the 3rd place game to prove a point?

I'd support it, but I suspect they'd play anyway.

Yeah I suppose you're right, I think in that situation they were acting on emotion and not thinking before speaking. Unfortunate because now they may not beat the French for the bronze.

It might actually be a blessing in disguise if the IOC investigate what happened after the game. Maybe they will watch the game again and try to find out why the Canadian acted that way. Then they will see how blatant the referee was in giving the Americans the win. Pretty much handed them the win in a platter.

For all global peacekeeping and general good standing for whats right internationally our country sure seems to be pushed around when it comes to the Olympics.
Ah screw over the Canadian they are nice they won't mind.
It really angers me how our athletes get shafted on so many occasions when it comes to judges, rules, officials.
I don't believe in last 4 or 5 Olympics Canadian athletes have not had an athlete, or some team get screwed over, its every Olympics.
Just a thought don't be so nice coaches and protest right there at the event. Just like the Japanese did in gymnastics and guess what they had it overturned.
It sickens me how many of our athletes get outcomes unjustly decided against them or something seemingly overlooked.
Politics in sports is non existent ya ok.

Dude, don't you think that's a bit of a one sided opinion.
While I'd agree there have been some bad decisions go against Canadians at this Olympics, the fact is there are bad decisions in every sport against every country.

I'd say just about every country would argue that they've been screwed over way more than Canada has, and in the case of Ukraine, and South Korea they'd probably have a pretty strong case. Hell South Korea is definitely saying Canada shouldn't have had a shot at batminton medals because a couple teams were employing a good strategy.

Everyone remebers the bad calls against themselves, but never acknowledges that they go the other way too.

That being said, the soccer was definitely some terrible officiating.

Soo... does Spain's men's basketball team get disqualified as well? They blew a lead against Brazil and thereby avoided the USA. CTV said they sat the Gasols at the end of the game too, though I can't find that documented.
