That's adorable, I thought they were considered coaches. Why not call it the men's nine then?

I was at the women's volleyball last night and will be again tomorrow. The highlight was an epic play where a Brazilian player, in a desperate attempt to save a ball, ran at full speed in the opposite direction of the net, far past the baseline, dove for the ball feet first, KICKED IT about 50ft in the air, was brought back into play by her teammates and eventually Brazil won the point. Impressive stuff -- I'm not sure where you can find a highlight of it on the internet but it was one of the coolest plays in sports I've ever seen live.

For a good shooting event to watch, watch the trap or skeet events. They are more exciting as you get to see moving targets blow up when you hit them. The double trap final is on right now. http://www.ctvolympics.ca/videos/cha...rap-final.html

It was a serious question though. Anyone know the answer?

I thought they were rhetorical questions. Yes, the coxswains get medals. I presume they call it eights because of the number of rowers.

For pairs and fours they differentiate between coxed and coxless, but the coxed events are not in the Olympics. Wikipedia tells me that coxless eights is considered unsafe because the boats are too fast, so I guess that's why they don't call it a coxed eight.
