I agree that his personal habit of politicizing things is grating, but Williams is absolutely right in stating that the Brits are incredibly thin skinned. They have no problem dishing it out, but sure as hell can't take it.

When you've witnessed an empire crumble a parade is relatively boring.

I love all the Prince's and Princesses' buying their way into competing in the Olympics. Basically they all compete in Equestrian, where the only thing that really matters is the horse, and surely they have access to the best horses and training in the World.
They are really just using the Olympics as some toy to entertain them.

Is anyone else reminded of the priest from The Princess Bride when Rogge talks?

Probably a security buffer.
Also, Nice of them to time the boring speeches with the start of the Jays game.

All that crap should be gotten rid of imo. You might as well bring in dog shows or horse racing, since they are just as athletic as horse jumping. Just because it was popular 100 years ago does not mean it should be an Olympic event. There are competitors in their 50's competing in Equestrian or Dressage! How can that still be in the Olympics when so many more relevant, athletic sports are not represented?

Shows you what money can do and an awesome movie director can do. Beijing is kicking the crap out of this ceremony.

That's no security buffer on the second deck ... that's odd

It sucks that we have to stay up until 3am to see any events tonight. Damn Olympics, always forcing me to move around my sleep schedule!
