Thanks, I know what you're trying to say. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people".

I just don't think you went about your presentation in the right manner, at the right time, or in the right thread. Just my opinion.

You've gotta feel for the families of the victims. Such a waste of lives to go like this.

An additional thoughts and prayers goes out to all the IQ being lost in this thread.

I heard her brother on Toronto radio today, and he sounded extremely composed given the circumstances. Obviously, his family has taken this very hard and it sounded like he was acting for a pillar for them during this time. I really can't imagine what he, and the rest of his family are going through.

Apparently she was also an intern with the Leafs, and worked with Burke and the Leafs on the "If you can play, you can play" project.

If you actually knew anything about firearms, you'd know that "assault rifle" is a category of weapon that is easily defined, which I've already done, and noted that you have apparently skimmed over. So maybe you should take a minute and reflect upon whether or not you're quite as knowledgeable as you think you are.

Yes, well, the issue that these sorts of tragedies tend to raise is whether those firearms should be even more strictly controlled.

The US Army utilizes full auto on their M4A1. Primarily because they now realize burst fire trigger pulls are worse for accuracy than controlled fire trigger pulls on an automatic weapon.

I've also read, though I don't know how accurate it may be, that there are more causes for current use M16A2s being semi-auto and burst fire only than ammo concerns. Namely, barrel heating issues.

#### I turned on the TV and this was the first thing I saw. This is damn terrible news. Thoughts go out to those in the theatre and their families.

If the root cause is mental health, tackle it, sure. Also tackle the supply. But thats just the immediate thought in my head because its the morning after the tragedy. Just very sad news, again not trying to promote a personal agenda and to my recollection I have never waged into a liberals/anti-gun thread before... its just more of a reflection in a morning-after-tragedy, thats all.
Well, in my line of work, someone with homicidal tendencies can be held under the mental health act, so yes he was.

Secondly, banning something will never stop the supply, it will only punish those of us who legally obtain, shoot and collect. You'll never fix everything

I don't think anyone is saying ban guns. I think most people just want tight restrictions on them because they can be potentially catastrophic like this event was (now the largest shooting in US History in terms of victims). Don't hear about too many guys doing this with a knife and killing 12 people.

I wouldn't mind seeing some people on a time out because they can't stay on topic.

I'm going to respectfully bow out out of this topic, I know people are debating because they really don't want to see this type of thing happen anywhere. Different country but still hits close to home as we see similar things happen here.. Again my condolences to the victims and their families.

Someone is capable of killing others without suffering from a mental illness.

It remains to be seen if the man is mentally ill. He'll be put through a fairly rigorous process of psychological analysis. You can speculate all you like until then, but keep in mind that that is all it is at this point: speculation. A guy on the internet (you) claiming he is this or that with no actual diagnosis being made available to this point is not conducive to intelligent argument.

Anyone who really thinks firearm ownership is a bad thing needs to take a good look at this.

I rest my case.

Anyways it'll be curious to see if there's any beefed up security at the theatres on this side of the border like there is going to be in some American cities. Maybe if someone is going tonight they could inform the rest of us.
