Things in the Fire and Ice forum have been bad since the beginning of last season. Especially when murray1 bet $200 on the Canucks to beat the flames, what a scumbag.

Maybe it's just a timing or lack of experience thing for me, but I found it got worse as soon as the Flames dropped out of playoff races.

The CP board heading into the round against Chicago was pretty excited, happy, and not too bad, occasional SebC-hating-Kiprusoff threat notwithstanding. The forum cracked when Sutter and Bouwmeester weren't proving to be the aces needed to push the team further (the fans were vibrant when they landed them though) and broke when the Flames couldn't get into the playoffs...and went down from there.

This is precisely why Canada needs to update it's ridiculous and erroneous marijuana policies. That is all.

Yeah. Now that you mention it, things started to go south for the Flames right after you showed up here. Please leave.

Seriously though, bang on, IMO.

A losing hockey team breeds anger, frustration and impatience from it's fan base. Two and a half years of it (halfway through 2009/10, with that losing streak that ended with Phaneuf being jettisoned) has led to a lot of understandable negativity.

Even things that should/could be viewed as positives get spun in a negative fashion by some of the most frustrated fans. That's where most of the conflict happens IMO. That and the "repeaters", who have been mentioned in this thread already......the posters who bring up the same negative topics over and over in just about every thread.

The only real solution IMO, is a winning hockey team. Hopefully we get one very soon, and for a long time, because I miss the "jolly good fun" CP.

I wonder how good the flames have to get in order for everyone to hold hands and sing campfire songs again though. Let's say they become a perennial playoff team again, but only for 1 or 2 rounds each season...is that enough? I still see plenty of crazies lashing out and demanding that all employees of the organization burn for their sins. The only sure way to make everyone happy simultaneously is a cup of course, but with 3+ decades in between those for most franchises, that's a long time to wait for CP civility.

It really did get worse when the main Flames forum got shut down, and most of the posters came here.

I don't even read the threads anymore. Its extremely hard to find the good posters and what they have to say.

The level of discourse went down a few notches November 15, 2006

Seriously though, it went south when the team did.

What we've got here is... failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.

1989+30=2019 I'd be pretty happy if the Flames re-tool or whatever and improve continuously ending in a cup win 7 years from now.

The FOI forum has turned into a game "How can I insult the last post/poster?" I've been lurking on CP since 2003, and I've never seen it get so pissy.

If someone's opinion is brain-dead stupid, they should be ridiculed for it. Just having an opinion doesn't mean anything, it's the content of the opinion, and if it's stuffed full of ####ty drivel than it deserves every snide remark it gets as far as I'm concerned.

If the opinion is thought out and well presented, even if it might not be correct in some way or other, then, no, it shouldn't be off handedly dismissed as garbage, but the ratio of ####ty opinions to snappy replies has risen steadily and fairly equally. The one begat the other, to quote the Bible.
