Like many, I'm more of a winter guy, but I'll watch the games when I come across them. My favourite events are the skiing ones, particularly moguls, I must make sure I watch that event every four years.

Women's volleyball.
Other than that, who cares? Bring on the Winter Olympics!

Personally, I dig the pole vaulting babes......yum!
If I am in front of the tv I check it out, but I likely will not watch hours of coverage.
Personally I am glad I do not live in the city where this colossal waste of money is being held. I could only imagine the month of hell trying to get to and from work or around the city......

I always look forward to the Olympics but especially this year since I'll be going along with my brother who is coming over from Calgary. So far I've got tickets to women's volleyball (twice), women's beach volleyball (although apparently women can't wear skimpy bikini bottoms during this Olympics ), women's football, and I'll probably wander down to the end of my street to watch the cycle race go past.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Transportation is looking to be a catastrophe.

The British commericals are the same as the American ones sound. You would think they would take a more global approach since London is hosting, but no it's pretty much all about the British athletes alone.

I wouldnt mind seeing a stripped down version with only basic sports like track, swimming, wrestling, stuff like that. And no uniforms or flags. Athletes can only compete naked.

I can't take this post seriously while you have the Dutch football logo as your avatar, and your signature is Dutch flags, tulips and a windmill. Are you purposely trying to be ironic?

Watching sports is almost always better than watching anything else, but I can't say I have a huge interest in the games. I just can't help feeling that it's a little silly watching them to see who the greatest athlete in the world is when I am far too skeptical to believe that performance enhancements aren't taking place that really make these people into much more than what a human really could achieve naturally.
Part of me thinks it should just be acceptable to dope as much as you'd like and we could have a 'Freak Show Olympics" to see the real peak of what we can do when we set our minds to it and dedicate a whole tonne of resources. Really, for the most high profile events that is basically what's going on anyways. Why not just let it go unbound?

I shudder to think how quickly and comprehensively London will fail to cope with the massive influx of Olympic athletes, coaches, media, spectators and the rest of the planet's visitors who descend upon the city in the summer. It will give a whole new meaning to the phrase "gridlock".
Having said that, I've got some weightlifting tickets for the 68kg men. It'll probably be interesting, but the journey to the ExCeL at Docklands will border on nightmarish.

As a Canadian I don't get up for it like I do the Winter Olys, but just as a sports fan I appreciate the sheer size of the games. Let's face it, from a world perspective the Summer Olympics are the Olympics. I try to watch as much as I can, especially any events Canadians have a legit medal shot at.
...and yes, women's beach volleyball is an automatic must-watch.

I watch as much of the Olympics as I can. It gives you exposure to so many sports that normally you have zero chance in watching regularly. The pure athleticism, drama, and triumphs are amazing to watch and be a part of. Even if Canada isn't in an event it's an amazing spectacle to behold.

That was mostly because I made an avatar and sig for the Kings, and it seemed to work out well or them, so I did it for the Netherlands too, which didnt work out so well.
When i was little and I first started watching & playing soccer I had to pick a team because the two countries I have passports for kinda suck (Canada & USA, dualies represent). Orange is my favourite colour so thats how I first started liking the Dutch, then I grew attatched to players like Bergkamp, Overmars, van Nistlerooj, Davids etc. It just kind of naturally evolved, mostly because of the 98 World Cup. Its no different than people cheering for the Green Bay Packers or the Yankees for no apparent reason.

There was also beauty contests, all-female wrestling, prostitution and orgies.

Trampolining for some reason catches my attention. Maybe it the possibility of falling from 30 ft up or something.

I don't care. It was a bigger deal when pros were not aloud. That being said it is fun hockey but that's about it.

I think I'll pass on that. I don't know about you but my "Olympic Spirit" for these London Games is at a low ebb. I've got these tix and I'll go to the event, but outside of that I'll likely not do much else.

I personally don't care about the summer olympics - almost none of it is worth watching on TV unless you have a personal investment in an athlete.
Also don't think the athletes can embarrass anyone but themselves - in order for them to embarrass Canada, we would need to actually invest in them first.
