We are going to take our kids (5 and 2) on Kids day. Going early to get in free, with Pancake breakfast, see the superdogs and other free shows, and leave by nap time in mid afternoon. The highlight of the kids' trip will be the CTrain rides.

So what you could do is take the train during the kid's nap times, ride it part way, have them fall asleep, head home, and when they wake up you can say "Yup, we were at Stampede, but you guys slept through everything!" Saves you a ton of cash!

Kidding. It's my kid's first Stampede this year (she'll be 6.5 months), we'll see how she does at the grounds. I miss out on all my work parties being on mat leave, but hope to hit up a few pancake breakfasts.

I'm coming down specifically for Stampede for 5 days, beginning on the 7th than ending the trip with 3 days in Banff. I'm hoping Banff will be good during Stampede as well. My plan is to basically spend all my time at the Nashville North or Cowboys tent, but I'm open to suggestions of clubs/bars to go within or outside the grounds. Thanks to CP, we're staying at the SAIT Residences.

Stay in the tents and avoid the clubs in downtown. Two reasons: there are plenty of hot women in the tents already who are plenty wasted, secondly the clubs will be packed to the brim with people. The clubs also have the dooshier crowd than the tents do. The tents are also bigger than my basement (Calgary clubs are pathetically small).

As for downtown bars, I wouldn't know.

I did that last year, and I'll never do it again. Go on a less busy day and pay the entrance, worth the money. Oh, and if you plan on taking the train make sure you go real early. I couldn't get on the northbound train after Somerset. It filled up on the first stop. Once your there it's so busy you can't even move in that kids area as well.

Taking the wife to the chucks/evening show one night, so it'll be the typical "spend too much money on subar food & drink" before & after I'm sure. Although the Coop Winebar area is a nice change of pace & a chance to get out of the sun.

Other than that just my companies Stampede Breakfast and whatever else comes my way.

I have Garth tickets and rodeo tickets for the last Sunday. The rest of the week is just play it by ear plans. This weekend is Ponoka Stampede so I will be getting my liver into drinking shape ahead of time!

If you're able to swing it I would try to get here for the 6th. I seem to find that the first Friday of Stampede is always the best day. There's the parade in the morning so everyone has the day off and just seems to be a good mood. I plan to attend a bbq around 11am at a friend's house and then I'll either be stumbling out of NN or Cowboys around 2 (hopefully, I'm getting old).

Other than that, I have a couple of work parties to attend and Thursdays has always been a big day with my friends and I at the rodeo/NN.

Can't wait - less than 2 weeks away.

Taking my 5 year old, so fully expecting to drop $100 on games and bring home $2.00 worth of stuffed animals.

We usually go on the first morning during the parade, we figure everyone is at the parade, the grounds are free and it's much quieter without all the people, usually we're gone by 2 as well...

I wish I could, but the arrangements have already been made and I can't change it. Last year I did go to the sneak-a-peak and it was quite nice!

For those of a thrill seeking nature they were stringing the zip line up last night. The towers for it are several stories up. I wouldn't even want to climb up to the top of the scaffolding let alone do a ride over the midway from the Big Four Building to beside the Saddledome.

I'm supposed to head to Craft or maybe Beer Revolution later in the night (say 9pm) on Thursday, July 5th. Should I expect large lines and difficulty getting in? I know Craft is pretty popular anyway and it is the eve of Stampede...

Expect everywhere that's a bar to be busy starting the 5th to the last Sunday. Remember that Thursday is basically Friday night since 80% fo the city either has the Friday off or takes it off.

Are you saying admission is free during the parade or just empty?

On the day of the parade it's free until noon I believe. At least that's what I heard.
