So I wonder if the rest of England gets what Liverpool fans were so frustrated by. 4 more years of Hodgson should be fun to watch!

So it was more like 5-4-1 or 4-1-4-1 It was weird.
What they really played was a 4-4-1-1. The formation really doesn't matter though, the point is that they had no wingers and asked way too much of Gerrard and Parker. Personally I think they would have looked better with something like:
---------------Hart--------------
Johnson-- Terry-- Lescott-- Cole
--------------Parker---------------
----------Milner---Gerrard-------
Walcott-------------------- Young
--------------Rooney------------

It was 4-4-2. Rooney and Welbeck playing deep. Rooney was the one supposed to be picking up Pirlo. That's where imo Gerrard got the run around from.

Baffling why they gave out so long of a contract.

Honestly, the Germans are perhaps the best team at this tournament. I don't think the Azzurri's have enough to get by Germany. Good to be hopeful I suppose in your case though!

Italians always give the Germans trouble though. It's sort of the German's boogie team.

In fact Germany (East or West or Unified) have never beaten Italy in a competitive match.

This is a mobile link but it's all I've got. A rather unflattering article from the globe on England. And tbqh I don't think it is much nicer to the Italians.

And winner for the most over dramatic article of the week goes to...

Quote:
More annoying was the Mexican wave that went round the stadium before the half-hour mark, and was sustained for five interminable minutes. This is the first major football tournament in which the wave, rather than being reserved for the interval, has been a regular feature of the playing time itself. A regrettable phenomenon, it is perhaps a consequence of Uefa's insistence on dressing up each match as a children's party.

Why the governing body would want to trivialise big and serious football matches is anybody's guess, although no doubt some dimwit in the marketing department had something to do with it. But any spectator who would participate in a Mexican wave during a match between two sides of such history and quality is insulting the players and does not deserve their ticket.

the British detest the wave, that's not new

it's not even just the media, most of the fans wouldn't do it and all the media I saw on twitter were applauding them for stopping, it's not as though I like the wave but their anger towards it is strange

I've been to one British game ever (Stoke City before they got promoted to the Premier League) and they don't like to even talk during games let alone doing the wave.

Basically two strangers (men) will sit beside each other and not say a word, holding their breath, intense concentration, studying every single movement of the ball, nervous of a defensive breakdown. Doing the occasional chant and song when required. When a goal is scored, they jump up, hug each other, then sit right back down and concentrate on the next play.

And it's not the Mexican wave.. the American (I think Pac-10) invented it during college football games in teh early 80s, long before World Cup 86.

That was the most respectable game I have ever seen the Italians play. Good on them for not turning it into a flop all over the field match. I personally thought this was a good learning experience for many of the younger English players.

Yes it was. Italy playing offense and not diving!
Balotelli fell in the box once and tried to draw a penalty but he got up quickly and gave the ref a wink.

The game was played in a very good spirit, hardly any fouls and almost any contact was coincidental while battling hard for the ball.

And once again, at a major tournament for England Wayne Rooney fails to turn up.

Will England ever have a reliable striker again?

Nobody from Liverpool ever shows up.

(Tourney's over, I'm in club mode again.)

Disagree, I think Gerrard has been one of England's best players during this tournament.

And Glen Johnson got England's only shot of the game against Italy.
