I like it. Hopefully this is just the start of a lot of things lining up right and a good next season.

It's better to stay in the box when you do your thinking.

Or when the Oilers stayed in the box and got s steal late in the first with Rob Schremp?
See I can come up with random examples too.

To me, that's a risk worth taking to get a higher ranked 1st rounder and possibly the guy the Flames really wanted in the early 2nd. Maybe it's just me, but I'd much rather be talking about TWO potential 1st liners after today than one.
Still pretty happy with it, happy we got a 2nd if they were gonna take Jankowski anyways, and the more I hear and read about Jankowski the more I like him, but wish things had transpired differently. Hope I'm wrong and he's the steal of the draft though.

Has been noted in the thread that according to the Flames, 3 other teams were keen on taking him in the 1st round.

He was slammed for taking Howard? By who? The consesus was that it was a toss up between Howard and Okafor with about half the guys thinking Howard should be the pick and the other half liking Okafor.
Also what specific history shows that he knows what he is doing?

There was a ton of backlash for taking a High School player in Howard, especially when Okafor was thought of as a more proven commodity. He faced a ton of heat and I would assume the history he is referring to is Wesibrod's past draft history which you can feel free to educate yourself on and see why he's so highly talked about.

Only time will tell. I'm not convinced this is a great/shrewd/HR pick, and I am not convinced it is a bust/terrible pick. At this point, it is merely a pick.

That makes logical sense, compare it to two draft picks the Oilers have made and just assess that to every draft from here on out. I'm sure no teams have ever benefited from thinking outside the box and taking a chance on a player.............dear lord

My good buddy coached against him in high school last year and he said he is "the real deal". He also said a Quebec League team has been trying to get him on their squad all year.

I have educated myself on his background and have yet to see the clear cut examples of why he is given carte blanche by many here to just be trusted in the picks.
And the "backlash" that he recieved is very much overblown here. It was a 50/50 split so some liked Okafor some liked Howard. It wasn't a controversial pick, it wasn't an out of the box pick and it wasn't that unexpected of a pick.

Just look at the Bruin's 2006 draft and that should give you some insight.
Overblown? Moon you've taken one comment and ran with it, trying to police these boards with your insane logic. I don't have any depth to my arguments or rarely use statistics, but here they are. There was a ton of contoversey because of Howard being a High School player and the recent lack of success in drafting players out of there. Many criticized the move and he faced a lot of backlash. That doesn't mean he picked Howard 1st as the 30th ranked prospect. Clearly Howard was going to get drafted high. Much like Mario Williams 1st overall to the Texans. Williams was still going to get drafted #2 but the Texans still took a ton of heat for drafting him #1, even though it was only one above his slot

He joined the Bruins in September of 2006 so did he work on the draft for them before his hiring? and he was the director of college scouting is there college players out of that draft that I should be looking at?

How am I policing anything?
I am commented that the pick wasn't that big of a shock or a controversial pick. Sure he got some criticism from guys that thought Okafor should have been picked but that happens anytime that there are two or three guys thought of to be the possible top pick. To me it seems an odd thing for people to keep coming back to when discussing Weisbrod as it seems to be a kind of ho hum story that doesn't really tell us much about him.

So after a chance to let it all settle in, I'm actually quite content with Jankowski in the first round. I have a feeling if he wasnt available until next years draft he would be a top three pick, maybe even number one.

He may have gone higher than he did in this draft but with Nathan Mackinnon in next years draft he would have to take an unprecedented leap in ability to pass him and even that may not be enough as I don't think a USHL player has even gone in the top 5 before.

this Jankowski pick kind of reminds me of the Morris pick in 96.
edit - don't means as players, but the fact they were off the board picks

Technically yes he can, the same situation that the Ducks are in this year.
