It's the same old same old with you, not an insult. It's always raining in moonsville.

I didn't criticize him I pointed out that he was acting like an expert in the way that Mr. Mastadoon complained about in his post.
And you still have yet to show where it is "raining in moonsville."
In fact I specifically said that I was not overly upset or happy about the pick but don;t like facts get in the way you never seem to care about them anyways if it doesn't fit your made up narrative.

Making him much more of a prokect, since he has yet to really develop. Again high risk/ high reward
|
The problem is that people confuse high risk/high reward with him having a strong chance of being an elite #1 centre or he's a complete bust who never plays in the AHL. He could just as easily be a 3rd/4th line guy. Just because a guy like Gaunce (for example) doesn't have the scouting report that says he can be an elite player doesn't mean it's not a possibility. Guys drafted with "only" good, but not great upside can and do develop into stars too.

If Weisbrod wasn't involved and our scouting staff hasn't been bolstered I'd probably be pulling what hair I have left, out.
Internet boards polarized - check, Moon/Dowbiggen dumbfounded - check, great story/family history with McGuire and others (including family) brought to tears - check...
can hardly wait to see how it turns out...

Thats funny, because although this is far from a perfect comparison, it is exactly what I have been thinking about for the past hour. Both guys could be absolute stud 1st liners, or they could both bust and never play an NHL game, but I like our chances.

comparing him to gaunce i definately perfer him. From reading some of the scouting info on gaunce is that he is a low risk low reward player that will play in the nhl. His upside is a third line 2 way center with energy line downside.
In my opinion its not worth drafting that type of player as we can sign the relatively cheap. So i would rather have a 10% chance of a 1st line center than a 100% chance of a third line center.
I dont know about the potential of the other two and Tervanainen sounds interesting but in the end i will trust the regime.

I'd say so. The Flames are down to scraps on D and could desperately use a big, mobile defenceman that can play at both ends of the ice. At the very least they're NHL players well before Jankowski is.
You have to take risks in the draft I just don't think this was the time to do it.

This is consistent with the coach's report that there were multiple scouts at every game since January.

This is probably the highest upside pick that the Flames have made in 10 years with exceptions of Dion and Baertschi.
He could bust, but I really do not think that will happen.

Since when did TJ Brodie or Giordano become scraps?

Of course there is. The percentage might be something like 1 to 2% about 7th rounders who have long careers in the NHL, but it can happen. Anything can happen when dealing with kids this young. I think it shows you how big of a crapshoot the draft really is and trying to predict how players this young will play out in the future is something that should always be taken with a grain of salt and anyone drawing conclusions without even watching this kid and right away after the draft, are ludicrous.
I think a lot of it has to do with physical traits of a player and his natural skills. I think there's a lot of things you can't see from a player that he can learn as a pro or have a higher hockey IQ. With a lot of these other players you get a pretty good grasp of how they are going to fill out physically, the type of skater they'll be and the type of shot they have. There's still so much room for Jankowski here because he's a clean slate almost. He's still such a project and we will get a much better read of what type of ceiling he really does have after another year or two.

You say the same thing every time Moon, try to point out to you where you're negative and or "prove that I do it all the time".
Yawn. Everyone around here knows your MO. It's boring and played out and I don't feel the need to point out the blatantly obvious to you because you like to maintain an oblivious sense of innocence.
At the end of the day the first thing you did was criticize someone for being positive. Just more of the same with you.

Look at the success rate of NHL first round picks and then make that same statement. This isn't the case here, but you're going to be right a hell of a lot more times being critical of a first rounder than you are praising it.
NHL GMs strike out plenty of times in the first round. If they're not perfect then why is it wrong to question them?

It's really eerie seeing the 12 on his jersey.... foreshadowing his future franchise-player potential?
