What is your favourite Calgary area golf course?? also what are some of the better deals ou there.

i would have to say Kananaskis and Darcy Ranch are my favourites, while OLDS is the best deal around if you dont mind the drive

I like WaterValley. The echo when you hit it into the forest doesn't make it seem so bad that I suck at golf.

I'm a big fan of Shawnee Slopes. Good bang for your buck, and it's pretty easy to get a tee time. Redwood Meadows is also one of my favourites, especially this year. The course is in perfect shape.

I like Harvest Hills myself. Haven't been lucky enough to play Kananaskis yet - soon I hope. Some of the courses in the Okanogan are very nice as well.

Water Valley is a great value.

I like McKenzie Meadows, so long as it's not too packed. Things can really back up on the back 9.

Nanton is a good deal too, though the course doesn't seem as well looked-after this year.

Fox Hollow is at the top of the list of courses I despise.

If you're masochistic then you might want to match your skills with the small nine hole Rio Vista in High River. Bring all the cheap balls you can afford to lose as this course will probably defeat you horribly. A good place to take a good golfer who's most likely to throw clubs around. Then laugh behind his back.

Darcy Ranch is a rolling good time.

Rio Vista can do some damage, no question. i dont know one person who actually likes fox hollow and that has been confirmed in this thread.. worst course out there, although the back 9 isnt as bad, but it still sucks big time

Great, I have the perfect friend for that. One hole he put 4 balls in the water while trying to chip onto the green. I was in tears as his anger slowly built into an all out spazfest. I couldn't make eye contact for the rest of the day.

I thought I was the only evil one to laugh at other people's misery. [/b][/quote]
I was with some guys - two of whom I'd never met before - golfing a February afternoon away at an INDOOR golf studio. Challenging St. Andrews on a screen.

This guy I didn't know got so frustrated he was throwing clubs at the screen and off the walls.

For our own safety we all had to stand back given the ricochets were so ferocious.

I'm a hack at best, and I got a free round at Silvertip once..

Oh. My. God.

Someday I will be a good golfer and I will return to do that course justice. That was by far the most amazing course I've played (I'm a hack tho).

A lot of serious golfers consider SilverTip to be a "gimmicky" tourist course. Great views, but the actual golf play leaves a little to be desired. From the time I played there, I tend to agree, I found some holes just plain ridiculous and the fact that there isn't a flat spot on the fairway anywhere (corduroy almost) tires you of uneven lies after a while.

I've heard Stewart Creek is by far the better of the 2 upscale Canmore courses.

Shawnee - too many houses, too short, and somethings always being fixed.

To be honest though, my favorite course is wherever I'm able to make a tee time at....

Carstairs has a nice track. It's reasonably priced, or was the last time I was there. Living in the far north end of town, it's quicker for me to dart up there than go to some of the courses like Shawnee Slopes or Heritage Point.

Silvertip is a fabulous course. Very breathtaking and incredibly scenic. But very $$$.

I think Country Hills has the best greens in town.

If you golf the Okanagan-Shuswap, Salmon Arm is one of the best values.

I have golfed Turner Valley three times in the last month.

Much like the OLDS poster above said, if you live south in the City you can get to Turner Valley pretty quick.

They have a twilight package that is $35 including the cart and I've always finished my round. It's a really nice course, fairly easy, and at that price I think it's worth the 40 minutes each way of driving.

I like the old canmore course a lot. Not too expensive last time I played anyway. Spectacular views, and not impossible to get on.

If you like mini-golf, go to Family Golf Centre (where the driving range is off stoney trail and nose hill drive). Also the one at COP is good.

Heritage Pointe (prefering the Pointe and Desert nines). Priddis Links would be at the top of the list but you need to know someone if you're not already a member. I think that Glen Eagles and Elbow Springs should get a knod as superior local courses as well. The new Speargrass course is interesting and should be a trip for all to take if you like D'Arcy Ranch and the British style courses. If I could pick one Calgary course to play, that I haven't, it would have to be The Golf and Country Club, followed closely by The Glencoe Club (the forest 18).

IN Calgary would be Redwood Meadows, and in Cochrane it is obviously the Links of GlenEagles.

I've mentioned this in a previous thread but the track in Innisfail is well worth the drive. Truly a pearl in the middle of no where!!!

Of the courses ive played down south i would say glen eagles is my fav. Silvertip is a course to play to say youve played it but that course does not reflect your true game as there is hardly a flat lie there. Drumheller back 9 is also very nice. As well the previous poster who mentioned the okanagon is very right. Lush green courses at very good prices.
