only the great John Helm would say... "and with that sweet goal, Germany have stroked themselves into the quarterfinals!"

Dutch coach probably gets fired and the people will blame the system but it's a very simple reason why they lost and are going home

RVP and Robben didn't show up

There seem to be some personnel problems with the Dutch. Too often egos get in the way and certain guys can't play with each other. Sadly this isn't anything new for the KNVB.

Supposedly Sneijder is a problem as well, politically he's undroppable, but he had a poor season at Inter and outside of a few good moments vs the Danes hasn't been good

VdV with a great goal today, but he can't play CM against a good team either

I am a happy person. It was nice of Podolski to show up today. Still waiting for Muller's arrival. I'd start that Schurrle kid ahead of him against Greece. Lackluster second half no doubt, looked like they were playing for a draw. Still hoping Klose will pot one or two before the tournament is over.

Ronaldo was the difference today. What a performance.

I was in such a bad mood back in December when the draw came out, I didnt like their chances at all.

Now I really like them to beat the Czechs later this week.

There's no such thing. That's the whole problem with the Dutch team.

The Dutch werent good enough in any of their games, but I thought their biggest problem was at the back end.
They were pretty unlucky not to score against Denmark, and they started off well against Germany. The back 4 just gave up too many quality chances.

I can't believe the Netherlands lost every game. I had them in the final. What a awful performance.

Considering most people had Portugal finishing last in this Group I think we proved they can hang with anyone. Let Ronaldo loose and he will kill you.
I like Portugals chances against the Czechs.

Forca Portugal!

Just got back from Poland late last night. Was definately one of the best times of my life eventhough there were some bad runins with bad people. Saw the Russia-Czech game the first day we arrived. Horrendus outcome for our side. But I had a blast partying with the Czechs for the rest of the week-end. Tuesday went to the Czech and Greece game. What a start to that game the atmosphere was tremendous. I had seats 6 rows behind the goal where all 3 goals happened. I also saw myself on ESPN for that game. Thursday took a train to Poznan to check out Croatia and Italy. That was a little intimidating at first the croations just owned the square in Poznan they were everywhere. Hung out at the Ireland drinking grounds Thursday and for the fans that didn't go to Gdansk man do those guys like to party they were still having so much fun eventhough they got blown out by Spain.

I'll try to get a few pics up soon. For now I'm just in detox mode......

Some thoughts so far:

-Despite going 3-0 in the toughest group so far (only perfect team through round robin) Germany look casual...hopefully they can flip a switch

-Germany seem insistent on playing a certain way and won't adapt - their lack of crosses into the box is maddening sometimes

-Germany have looked awful on defending corner kicks - why on earth have zone defense on those things? One goal surrendered so far and several close calls - it will cost them the tournament yet

-All that being said the team has won three close games and seems to find a goal when needed...Greece can be frustrating to play against and hopefully the Germans can capitalize on some of the chances they'll create

-Spain still looks like the team to beat, the Germany from today or against the Portuguese will be shredded in the final unless they can turn it up another notch

-Very impressed by Portugal - always one of the overrated teams but have flown under the radar this time and its benefitted them - though Postiga is terrible they will be through to the semifinal no doubt

-Correctly predicted Holland going home early - they forgot how long and tough a road it was to the final in 2010 and thought it would be easy

-Sweden surprised by their ineptness

-England look good but play in an easy group and likely won't get a result against Italy or Spain in the quarters

-This is a better tournament than the World Cup
