http://consequenceofsound.net/2012/0...um-silver-age/
On September 4th, Bob Mould will release Silver Age, his debut release with Merge and his first studio full-length of new material since 2009′s Life and Times. Recorded alongside his current band of drummer Jon Wurster and bassist Jason Narducy, the ten-track effort channels the “punishingly loud, melodically sparkling pop/rock” heard on Mould’s previous efforts with Sugar

New Wintersleep album out today. Gave it one listen... I think I'll like it better than the last one.

I hope so - I haven't really enjoyed a Rush album since Grace Under Pressure. Where are the riffs? Where are the hooks? Why does Geddy sing so much?

I picked up Clockwork Angels yesterady but haven't had a chance to give it a solid listen (it deserves better than a "play in the car on the way to work" listen). What I did hear has me thinking Canada 02 could be right.

Why Rush Is A Pop Band, And Other Things Your High School Weed Dealer Would Never Admit
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/...ork_angels.php
What often gets lost, though, is that these humble epics of Far East tourism and tribute to Samuel Taylor Coleridge somehow linger in the head because of their tunefulness.
I remember "One Little Victory" causing me to buy Vapor Trails with excitement—Rush was writing riffs again! But before researching this piece, I couldn't remember how any of the record went.
Clockwork Angels can come off like a midlife-crisis Porsche buy at times, but Rush never lost that sense of patient, rendered wonder

System of a Down/Scars on Broadway fans:
New Scars on Broadway album this summer. There is a song preview on their website (been there for a couple months) and it's absolutely uhhhhhh awesome. Daron Malakian knows how to write hooks.

Not sure I'd call myself a fan, but I do listen to their stuff. I made it about half way through the album and had to turn it off. I've liked their recent stuff, but this album did not agree with me at all.

Just finished listening to it twice. I'm 100 percent biased as I'm a huge fan of theirs, but I loved it. Best album since Meteora by a country mile. I appreciated what they tried on A Thousand Suns, it was ambitious, but some of it fell pretty flat. They blended some elements from Thousand Suns and some old school hard riffs for a cool sound.
Of course, in my extremely biased opinion.

I've got Linkin Park on my "guilty pleasures" list, I'm not really a big fan (not going to Xfest to see em) but some of their past stuff strikes a chord.
But this new record is really bad, seems like their trying to follow a few other paths carved out by others (Sleigh Bells & Deadmau5 come to mind) on this record.
Heck the whole record's just shy of 37 minutes... and it drags.

I could tolerate Linkin Park if they got rid of their "rapper" guy who always repeats himself and uses Dr. Seuss rhymes. Chester Beddingfield is actually pretty good.
