Default Drum Stuff

Hey CP Braintrust,

I've been drumming for a while but normally played on my brothers kit at his place. I just aquired a new kit and have a need for a few things. I need some skins and lugs for the bottom of all the drums except the snare obviously. I need a ride cymbal and stand and a tom arm that can branch off of another stand.

I'm just wondering what are the best places around town to shop for this stuff. I would prefer to go the used route if the stuff is in decent shape. Thanks!

K well I've been playing guitar and other instruments since I was about 12, so I know these stores and Kijiji etc.. carry music stuff. I'm more looking for drum specific places where they might carry used stuff.

I've never stepped foot in the drum section of any of those stores. Do they carry used stuff? Are the staff knowledgable?

Mother's Music (not sure if it is still called that) is pretty good for drums. Knowledgeable staff, not sure if they carry much used stuff but they could help answer questions that's for sure

I haven't been there in a long time (maybe 5 or so years), but Mother's Music used to have tons of great drum stuff. Very knowledgeably staff, and I thiiiink they had used stuff, but I could be wrong about that.

Edit: ^ Just beaten!

Long & McQuade can be iffy. A coworker had a lot of trouble finding a quality snare there a couple weeks ago

Yup I believe you're right... Brain fart, it is Long & McQuade

Anyways, good staff there but the selection can be spotty at times

Unfortunately, the reality is...there is nothing that great in town for what you're looking for. Every store does have used drum sets but won't sell single used parts. They don't stock up on misc stuff like that.

If you're looking for "bottom" skins aka resonance heads, I would definitely recommend buying new. They are not that much money. I'm an Aquarian fan myself (but any head is fine and it's just preference):

I need a ride cymbal and stand and a tom arm that can branch off of another stand.
....I could probably help you with this. I recently converted to a rack set up and have lots of arms and tom forks, etc etc.

Very true.

In his situation he didn't have time on his side to do but if you know what you want then that is the way to do it for sure

I believe there is (not sure if still there) a drum shop on 17 Ave SW in Kilarney.

Edit: It's named Johnny Cruse Drum Shop & Studio 2627 17 Ave SW.

That would be great. Because yeah, I only need the one arm and I'm sure ordering something like that new would be rather expensive.
