The existing 10th Street West Station, where the Northeast line train route 202 currently ends will be demolished (I've heard September), but the new station a block west (Kerby Station) will not open right away. Due to how the tracks and station currently sit at 10th Street West, the tracks and catenary (overhead power wires and poles) will need to be re-aligned and signals tied-in to the next block heading to the new West LRT line. Between the time of the old station being shut down and demolished and the new line opening up, passengers from the northeast will use 7th Street and 8th Street Stations as a terminus. The trains will then continue to where they do now and (the station platform no longer being there), operators will switch ends by using the stairs on the train cars and the train will head back to the northeast.

Things will operate like this for a few months. The new Kerby Station and West LRT will then open together.

I've also heard rumours that the line will open as originally planned in December.

woohoo!

Unfortunate that the copper is already starting to turn brown. By the time the line opens we probably won't even have any shiny stuff.

Will Brown be the final color for the copper after it ages?

Won't it go green like the Parliament buildings in Ottawa?

From what I understand, Calgary doesn't have the necessary humidity to turn it green, so it will most likely just look like an old penny...ie, brown. It's already happening on the Sunalta station.

Due to the lack of moisture in our atmosphere (compared to ottawa), they will go brown first, then eventually turn green far down the road. The brown will be similar to an old penny.

Even if it does turn green, which is questionable, it will be many decades from now. Kind of crappy design forethought if you ask me.

ah... For some reason I thought they found a new way to treat the copper so it will always look like bright and shiny.

But i guess we get the brown/green color down the road.

You don't honestly think the designers and city approved every West station being copper clad without knowing full well what copper looks like in Calgary? I believe you can chemically treat copper to speed up the oxidization, but without any moist air, its likely going to be deep brown for a while. Enjoy the shiny while it lasts.

Best we'll get is a blueish/green steel color eventually. Here's the Knox church downtown (built 1912)

I've lived in Calgary long enough where I've seen my share of roadway/infrastructure projects be completed, only to be torn up and re-done a different way in 2 years.......so....who the eff knows?!? We're not really a city that's know for it's smart long-term planning.

Are you back full time?

For some reason I just thought you were back for an extended Christmas vacation, and just recently I've been noticing more posts that suggest you're back here for good??

My wife and I gave ourselves a year to figure out if Calgary is for us long-term. We're in about month 5 right now. Still unsure of what will happen to be honest.

I'll tell you something though, this copper fiasco is not helping.
