We buy cheese curds at Safeway - look where the specialty cheese is located, usually near the Deli. I think Squeakers is the brand name.

Thanks a bunch, I looked at Safeway yesterday but just looked in the standard cheese section and didn't find them. Hopefully I am good to go now!

The best cheese curds I have ever had!
http://www.sylvanstarcheesefarm.ca/
You can get them at Sunterra, among others places. When I was living in Red Deer I would to go to Sylvan Star on Thursday mornings for the fresh curds, they would often be sold out.
Enjoy.
They make very good gouda, too

Harvey's has a good poutine for fast food. I hate A&W's though, the gravy is awful in every aspect.
I want to try Big Cheese Poutine downtown, the menu looks really good.

The poutine at Laurier Lounge is pretty decent. La Belle Patate has the best poutine but it is out in Canmore.

Incidentally, I just had my very first poutine yesterday. We were at Chinook Mall to do some running around and stopped at New York Fries for lunch.
It squeeks.
The texture took me a moment to get use to. The gravy was really heavy and rich, but the fries were deliciously soft yet crunchy.
As I have no other poutine to compare it to, I have to say it was "OK."Ringing in at ~$6.50 for a medium fries that two of us shared, it seemed rather expensive.

As far as fast food/mall poutine goes, I rate New York Fries among the best. We are talking about fast food though, so it really only gets so good...

+1 to Harvey's. They just do burgers right and the poutine is the icing. I use to always go to the Brentwood Mall Harvey's for that poutine fix.
There is no Harvey's in the Lower Mainland (that I'm aware of) other than the airport or for some strange reason all the Home Depots so it is always a special trip to the Home Depot for burgers and poutine of all things.

The other day I threw some fries in our deep fryer while I made some powdered poutine sauce (Safeway). I just poured the sauce on the fries with the curds, and it was easily better than anything I have had in Calgary.

King of Subs didn't really impress me, but to be fair, they were packed for about 30 minutes while I drove home and the fries were incredible limp. I will have to give it another try though if I am back in the area and have time to eat there.
I am really embarrassed to say that I like Costco's poutine as well, but I also work close by enough that the fries maintain their integrity until I get a chance to eat it.
I also tried Rocky's burger bus poutine and wasn't happy about theirs either, but can't remember why exactly. Maybe too greasy or the fries too thick or something.

Costco's poutine is surprisingly good. It's nothing compared to Harveys' poutine, though.
Next time my school's cafeteria sells its pathetic attempt at recreating the dish, I'll snap a photo of it and post it on here. What utter, utter garbage.

I remember my Jr. High's Poutine. Soggy fat fries, grated mozza and a nasty gravy. It sucks because my first year (gr. 7) was really good, then the next year they changed it all and it sucked.
