That analogy reminds of the trouble the mayor of New Orleans got into after Katrina...talking about a chocolate city
He saved himself with some quick thinking and playing with the chocolate wording as a mix of dark chcolate and vanilla....

I think she's got bigger problems now, but here's an article on her CBE time.

Yeah, i read that before...but its all about what daveberta thinks/discovered.

I would like to know if she has been asked about it during this campaign and how she sees it now looking back.

I myself have not heard her mention it any time in her campaign. And with all her party's issues now I can't imagine she'll speak to it before election day.

And this will not help Danielle, considering she said it at a presser today

Quote:
“Ron is a good person. He made statement last week that was wrong and hurtful to many of our friends in this diverse community and when he realized his mistake, he apologized immediately,” Smith said from a community centre in PC Leader Alison Redford's riding of Calgary Elbow.

“One misspoken of sentence does not erase a lifetime of good works tolerance and service. When mistakes are made, and apologies are given, the Alberta way is to accept it, to forgive and move on rather than to pursue the politics of division

I think she discusses it in the Globe and Mail article I linked earlier. Says she learned from that experience.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...2402264/page3/

But her conservatism clashed with the Liberal majority and hostilities ran so deep that, in August, 1999, provincial Learning Minister Lyle Oberg fired the entire board, whose own chair had described as “completely dysfunctional.”

Today, Ms. Smith acknowledges her role in the board’s public breakdown, saying she was “more strident” and “not as open-minded.” The experience, she says, provided valuable lessons in what not to do as a politician – teaching her to listen to views she doesn’t share and to be more collegial.

I disagree. These candidates were either nominated locally or passed the approval of the local nominating committee. To run roughshod over the democratic process is the epitome of being a dictator.

There were other options. I will gladly discuss on Tuesday. But I think most can figure it out.

I don't really agree with your points, but as it stands now, I think the right political move for Smith is certainly just to stay the course and let the chips fall where they may.

If she is lucky, Leech and Hunsperger lose horribly and she manages to get her candidates in line before the next election.

The truth is that these are isolated incidents. Every party attracts the occasional nutter candidate. Unfortunately as a result of the nomination process these people get nominated as a party rep without being properly screened and its like this with every party. No way a party has time to do a thorough background check on every person who is vying for nomination in every riding.

Mistakes happen and ridings elect the wrong candidate to represent their party without knowing all the facts.... and sometime they keep on electing them (ie Rob Anders) for what ever god knows misguided reason.

Anyways, just because a party has the occasional kook doesn't mean the whole party is nuts.... just like if you have the occasional idiot on Cp it doesn't mean all CP'ers are idiots.

I take these nutjobs with a grain of salt knowing that no way in hell will they ever close to the reins of power.

Default Senate elections

I don't know if this warrants a separate thread, but what are people doing when it comes to Senate elections? I have no idea - I've seen a name or two throughout the city, but I don't know anything about them.

I don't see how that statement hurts her any worse.

I would say there is an inverse bell curve. The nut-bars are largely found on the far-left and far-right.

I voted for the candidates who represent the party of the MLA that I voted for... if that makes sense.

Guess it depends where you stand.... some would say the same about the left.

Seriously though, I think it has more to do with the development stage of where a party is at.

So what does two misspeaks constitute? Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...

She's painted herself into a corner now, especially with this one too

When he realized his mistake he apologized immediately, and he did so again last night. If I believed he was a racist I would have fired him. But he’s not. He simply misspoke.
So now she has to fire him or look weak.
