Ha, not here on Vancouver Island. I was wondering the same. Probably more glitches.

The new firmware is being rolled out by service groups to balance server load. If youve got nothing better to do... PM me your number and I can look up when youre going to be upgraded. But that might only work if Ive got nothing better to do. The upgrade should be done by May.

I've been quite happy with my Telus service for a little over a year now.

Soon, you'll be able to forget the call to the CSR to change theme packs and do everything yourself through your STB.

Just wondering how long it took you to get your free promotional whatever. I chose the free tablet, it has been just over a month and haven't heard or seen anything.

It usually takes about 6-8 weeks to get the tablet (depending on stock) If it goes any further let me know.

Does anyone else get a lot of lag when loading up Optik on the XBox. It is great if you don't power down the XBox, but when you do it seems to take several minutes to load up the list of recordings (and it always loads the oldest first for some reason).
On another note, once booted up the menus are really quick to navigate through.

unlike the PVR, the xbox is not always on, meaning it has to do the loadup of it's stuff, so lag wouldn't be unexpected.

The new firmware is a total failure in getting the system to run faster while browsing menus and the guide. Total epic fail. I don't want all this on my tv like facebook blacks and whatever the hell else. God damn it.

How did I know this was going to be the result? Go Microsoft! Nothing but the best from those awesome hard-working folk! Within the next five to ten years, no one is going to subscribe to the ridiculously expensive TV packages from the tel co and cable co anymore anyway. Services like Netflix and Apple TV are the future, especially when I hear about Shaw doing things like disabling fast forwarding on VOD during commercials. The future is here and Canada's big cable/tel cos will continue to be stuck in the past. If you look at the HD channel availability from all of Canada's big 3 TV providers compared to the HD channels that exist, it's abysmal! Almost every SD channel is available in HD now in the US, but they won't fork over the $$ here! Maybe if we're lucky Telus will continue adding an average of 0.5 HD channels per month.

I don't like piling on but I agree jerbroch. It's stupid. This update almost 2 years to get pushed out and this is the best they can do? It's embarrassing. The best part is TELUS will blame MS, and MS will blame TELUS. The buck stops with no one.

What they should do is roll it back instead. When I first got Optik I was so impressed with the speed. It blew Shaw's old system away. Unfortunately that only lasted about two months.

Same.
Wait, no. It said the txt msg was free, not the PPV. The text was just a reminder of the event.

It really falls on both groups, Microsoft and the provider.
AT&T, MTS, and TELUS all use the same boxes and the feedback was pretty much the same for all users who received the upgrade.
Didn't really fix the issues the customers had with the box and just rolled out more APPS nobody really asked for.

Has anyone added another Optik TV box to their current home? Is a tech required to come out and install it?

When I got the free XBox they wouldn't even ship it to me unless I would allow a tech to install it for me. I fought them for a while explaining that I could plug it in myself if they could just give me the setup code.
In the end, the tech came and they hadn't generated the code yet so he took my email address and sent me the code to key in when it showed up.

^^Ugh that doesn't sound too promising.
I tried the live chat help line and got three different answers from three different people. So I guess I'll phone and try to get the code.
