Thanks for the responses. I'll probably give it a whirl, although I'm sure an ipad2 is good enough as is.

Also, most of my movies are in 720p. i assume that would look great on the retina display? What if it's just 480i?
Thanks for any replies.

I use Goodplayer. I think its $0.99. It plays almost every file type there is and works perfectly. Definitely worth the investment.

I currently have the 6GB for $30 plan on my iPhone with Rogers. My two 'New iPad's have just arrived and want to share that plan between them.
Bell: Keep whatever dataplan you currently have on your phone, $10 per device you are sharing with and it will automatically upgrade you to LTE
Rogers: "We can take the 6GB for $30 plan off your account, move you to the $60/month 6GB plan and then it would be $11 per tablet on top of that. Do you want me to go ahead and do that?"

I hope Rogers gave you the option to remove your pants and hold onto something bolted to the frame of your house before they went to town on you.

I thought rogers lets you add an ipad to your data plan for 11 bucks a month?
edit
Just read fine print on website 30 dollar plan doesn't count. Rogers are jerks

I got this from their website
Adding a new or existing device that you already own - Share the data that is included in your Data Share smartphone pla

That is exactly what I read too. And I told the rep that is what I wanted. And she said, no, that only, only, only applies if your current data plan is a data plan that they currently offer. Since they no longer offer the 6GB for $30 plan, they will not share it. I would have to switch to the existing $60 for 6GB plan and the 11.93 is on top of that.
Yeah, I see you caught the fine print. I was told the same thing by both Rogers service reps.

Can you not just create a personal wifi hotspot from your phone and have the iPad connect via wifi? Or is there some barrier here I'm un aware of that requires a call to the phone company?
I'm just assuming anytime I'd leave the house with an iPad I'd have my phone with me too.

How ######ed is that. They will offer it again since they bring it back all the time yet I bet when it does come back they still won't let you add a device for 10 dollars

This is what I do and since I have unlimited data on my mobile, it works great!

The hotspot idea is great...and that is what I have been doing for me personally and what I will continue to do with my iPad until I find a decent price for LTE. However, as I mentioned earlier, this one is a gift for a family member. And while we are often together, we're not always together.
Retentions offered me 3GB, sharable across all three devices (iPhone, my iPad, and this new one) for $30. But that means giving up my 6GB for $30. So I'm debating. Is $30 + 12 + 12 = $54 for 3GB on 3 devices better than $30 for 6GB on one device.

Doesn't this kick the crap out of the battery on both devices? As a power user I would rather have 3G/4G connection on my iPad if this was the case. I assume the wifi iPad can take advantage of the GPS on the iPhone 4S? And last but not least can you still send and receive calls while you have a hotspot going? I am new to the Iphone/iPad stuff.

Just bit the bullet on the new machine. I've been a long time iPhone user, but this is my first iPad. Quite a sexy little toy. I'm not sure that I really needed it, but I think it'll be great for on planes and vacations when they come around. I'll probably lug it around with me at work as well for when I'm bored. Which brings me to this question. What case/covers are you guys using and do you recommend? I got the guy at London Drugs to throw in a $50 case for half price, but looking at it at home, it looks like a piece of crap. It doesn't stay in snug...and just a cheap feel to it overall. I'll definitely be taking it back and getting something sturdier.

I bought the apple leather cover for $75. I haven't tried it yet since I'm up north, but can give feedback tomorrow when I get home.

I didn't like the smart covers myself. I didn't like how they would fall off if turned upside down (nervous about whether they would hold in place during day to day transport) but they certainly are thin and the magnetic shutoff feature is very nice.
I ended up with the Targus 360 myself. The rubber band holder it originally has is rather silly but I ended up removing it and actually implanting some neodymium magnets to do the same as a smart cover. It was originally for the iPad 2 but it will fit and hold the new iPad as well. It does add extra thickness and heft though.

Just got my iPad. It's a thing of beauty, but my SIM isn't working. I'm going to have to get it checked. And now my home Internet is down too! I'm posting this tethered to my iPhone. ****
