I really would like to hear what a jail broken iPad is so bad at compared to any Android tablet.
Yes, there is no jailbreak yet for iPad 3, but proof of concept is on you tube from MucleNerd. There should be a jail break very soon for a device that just came out Friday.
Retina is no big deal because few apps make use of it? Right now, the most popular app on all devices uses it, a web browser. The other stock apps are upgraded as well, and many more are on the app store. Discounting retina because it makes old apps look bad is really a poor cheap shot. It is progress, and is making tablets better to work with. There really is zero downside to Retina, except a few slightly blurry apps for a few months. Now let's compare that to the fragmentation nightmare that is Android.
Finally, the vailed reference that anyone that uses iOS is green in the world of computing. This is false. I have no idea why there is a device that is so much harder to use, more kludgy, still needs to be rooted, yet is hailed as a device for people in the know. I have a comp sci degree, been an app dev, now I help design enterprise software integrations. Yet I use an iPad. Why? Because my idea of using a tablet is to quickly gain information, not fiddle with hacking a proper email/music app into the system on my Saturday afternoon. I want something that works, and for me the iPad is it.
I don't think I will like Android, any more than you will like iOS. That is fine, to each his own. I just don't like hearing the same falsehoods thrown out every time Apple takes Android out to the cleaners. Fact is Android in the tablet space is behind even further now, and they need to address why that is, or it will continue to be a niche product that only some of the tech savey prefer.

I've used Cydia before and have jailbroken devices for many people. I have no idea where you get the idea that I am implying that iOS users are green users, that was honestly not my intention. I know from this forum that the brightest and most advanced technology and IT users whom I respect a great deal by the knowledge they've displayed are big Apple fans. I'm just glad that there's a place I can send people who want help with their iOS devices that isn't me.
iOS and the entire Apple ecosystem and GUI and industrial design simply are of a style that doesn't sit right with me, jailbroken or otherwise.
For me, a computing experience is akin to listening to music. For everyone, there will be some kinds of music that they simply do not and will never like. It doesn't negate them as genuine forms of artistic expression or quality for others.

I'll take that hit. I set it up for her over about 20 minutes and didn't want to ever touch it again. It's like making me listen to country music. If you knew me in real life, I'd be the guy hanging out with the IBM 5150 with monochrome display over the iPad 3 and it's Retina display (or even any Android device, mine is perpetually broken and I'm not a huge fan) any day. I simply have no interest in such things.

None taken. Of all the IT people on this forum, I probably respect your knowledge the most from what I've seen from your postings and you obviously do appreciate your iPad very much. I'm the last person who could accuse anybody who enjoys iOS of being green but it definitely is a system that provides good support for masses which means I can tell people to go elsewhere for help when I don't have the time to deal with it.
I'm not a fan of any UI and I could spend hours telling people why Android, Windows (Windows 8 is terrible), and even most flavors of Linux (Ubuntu with Unity is one of the worst things ever created) have horrible UIs.
And yes, a lot of applications with vector graphics will work great with the Retina display. My issue with going higher res is that it makes most older photo and video content or lossy compression formats look poor and that's something that frustrates me on any platform from my desktop wallpaper to trying to watch DVDs on a 1080p TV. I still keep a CRT TV around for certain things.
As for the Android device I'll be inheriting. It might have Cyanogen mod on it and the UI might be livable for me...but it's slow and the thing freezes and crashes every 30 minutes. I know the iPad 3 would never do that and it is fast as hell.

Anyone checked for dead pixels yet? The images at this link are 1024x1024, but should still do the trick displayed full screen: http://www.theipadguide.com/content/...st-how/7171269
I haven't checked, because I can see any off-hand, and I'm not sure I want to know if there is one lurking around.

Not sure if true or not, I was told you can link an Ipad and a Blackberry if you get a new sim card to use your Blackberry data plan through your Ipad. Is this true?

You're going to buy a Playbook because UPS didn't deliver your iPad on time? I know you're pissed but that doesn't make any sense at all.

Opened up my National Geographic edition yesterday and when I saw the resolution of NG's magazine on the new iPad, I thought...
They'll need to update their digital magazine.

$20 says the Apple employee breaks character, literally laughs out loud and calls bullish*t on you.
I had a negative experience with UPS for a far more useless product (a single pack of batteries). I called Apple not to complain, but to ask my options. They refunded my purchase on the spot and gave me a coupon. Considering they had nothing to do with UPS I thought it was pretty awesome.

I know, I'm just pissed of I'm being jerked around by ups. This is another wasted day.
They just said the driver is overloaded and not sure when I'll get my stuff. So since you fail to deliver my stuff on the date I was told, you put me on the back burner when I should be priority #1.

My company got me an iPad 3, and while I appreciate the gesture, I'm not seeing it as being all that different an experience from the 1st generation I already had.
Yes, the display is sharper. Yes, it's faster, and lighter. However, I am neither running huge atomic bomb simulations nor watching hi-res porn, so it's not really that big a deal. I'm certainly going to pass on my old one, and use this from now on, but there is no way I could justify spending $600+ to upgrade if I hadn't got it for free.
