Default Transcoding advice

Quick question regarding transcoding - I have a set of OGM containers that are encoded with the VP7 codec. Is there an easy/efficient way to get these transcoded to basically anything else, without having to track down weird codec packs of unknown origin? I've started doing some research, but it looks like a long and winding road to get these converted, and I'm hoping someone here knows the tool chain or has it set up and could help out.

If you have a video camera, just record the screen while it plays.

Seems to be a simple automated app and you can do batch processing...but it's from 2006 so I don't know how well it fares with more modern codecs or containers. Theoretically if it just hooks into whatever codecs you have and automates the conversion it should work fine.

There are definitely more professional apps out there that will do the conversion but I don't know any off the top of my head as I've never done this before.

edit: okay the reviews are not too good:

Try using AVISynth and frame serve to whatever encoding application you plan on using.
