Edit: On a side note... I've heard of a place in Quebec called St. Hubert, and their sauce is supposed to be better than Swiss Chalet. Is this true?
St. Hubert is pretty overrated imo. I'd say there's not a whole lot of difference between it and Swiss Chalet. Rotisserie chicken places are extremely popular in Quebec, thus there are a ton of them. Chalet BBQ is my personal favourite. I saw Scotty Bowman there a couple months back!
I was a fry cook at St Huberts on Macleod Tr in the 1980s. The sauce was good - more salty than the sweet Swiss Chalet sauce. What are these packages they are selling at the market?
We pick up the poutine sauce, but I think they sell the chicken sauce too - I'll take a look next time we go to stock up.
St-Hubert once had a presence throughout eastern Canada, but it now has few locations outside its home province of Quebec, where it remains a dominant chain. Other locations are found in Ottawa, Cornwall, and Moncton. St-Hubert is the 16th largest restaurant chain operating in Canada.
St-Hubert is now generally mutually exclusive with the similar Swiss Chalet chain, which exited the Quebec market in the early 2000s, although there is no formal agreement between the two.
Laurier Lounge has quite a few poutine choices. They treat it like an entree dish so it's somewhat expensive.
The duck confit poutine is good. The steak pountine was okay - I didn't think it was worth the extra money.
As an aside, the part in this episode where he went to Martin Picard's restaurant and Martin tried to kill him was awesome.
Yeah, Au Pied de Cochon. That restaurant is awesome. I've been 5-6 times, and every single time I feel like I need to be transported home in a wheelbarrow. And that's from eating one main course, I can't imagine going through all of them (even partially) ...
Haven't read the whole thread, but has anyone mentioned the Lobster Poutine at Brava Bistro on 17th ave? Hands down the best poutine in the city, nothing else even comes close.
In honour of this thread I had a Costco poutine for lunch.
It was revolting.
Their fries are fine, but its an overly salty fake gravy, with big chunks of cold mozza on top. Gag me. Ate the crispy fires to the side and tossed it. What a waste

What's with Costco and terrible Quebec foods? Their "Montreal" Smoked Beef Sandwich is simply awful too and on the totally wrong bread.
Old thread bump - anyone bought any cheese curds in Calgary recently? If so, where? I've got a hankering for some Poutine, and would really be stoked if I could get some curds this evening so I can have beer and Poutine for the game! Any help appreciated.

Had Poutine at Original Joe's yesterday. Was decent. Actual cheese curds, decent gravy & fries. I thought it could have used a bit more gravy, a little less salt. But overall was a pleasant surprise for a pub I go to regularly that I've never ordered the poutine at.
I haven't been there sober, but the Poutinerie on 17th has never failed to satisfy. Great fries, delicious gravy, lots of variety. Best poutine I've had in the city so far.
I don't know about Calgary, but I know the best Poutine in Alberta - La Belle Patate in Canmore. Run by some transplanted Montrealers. Best Pout I've had outside Quebec.
