That's one way to look at it, but here is another. A lot of Baertschi's multi-point outings seem to have happened in one-or-two-goal games. His most recent impressive 2+2 performance came in a 5–4 win against the very good Vancouver Giants. Even in the last game against Prince George, Baertschi's two goals were earlier in the game—the 2–0 goal, and then the 4–1 goal. To me, at a very cursory glance, it appears as if Baertschi is a "clutch" player, who does not frequently pad his stats in big blowouts. I would be very interested to see how many of his points come in closely contested matches.

Listening to his interview on the fan this morning I missed a bit of it but they talked to him about how he handled his concussion. Said he spen most of his time resting, never had a concussion before so all the treatments were new, ha to get used to it. Recieved a lot of support from the Flames medical staff making sure he was 100% before playing again.
Talked about this year being very different from last year. Last year it was his first year in north American style of play and schedules. In Switzerland they played 40 regular season games compared to 72. This year he is more prepared for the amount of games and the amount of travel.
They also asked him about his play this year. Says the team is on fire and are having a hell of a season. Enjoys playing on a line with rattie. Also this is the reason I quoted was because the guys on the fan asked him about his game last night, and he mentioned he wasn't playing in the 3rd period because the coach was resting him, letting the younger guys get some playing time. I can't check right now but I wonder how many times this has happened this year?
They mentioned the trade deadline, he hopes he isn't traded. He wants to play and stay in Calgary. He hasn't really heard anything so he isn't worried.
Big fan of the NHL. Checks stats/standings everyday. Also checks the Calgary Flames website daily for team news. Always wants to know whats going on with the team, whether it's players called up or basic team news.
I think that's most of the stuff they taked about. All I know is this guys a keeper and is going to be a huge part of the Flames future

The winterhawks are a team that scores more than any other team in the dub and by quite a bit. The next best in their conference is 35 back. That adds up to quite a few points to be had when your a top forward on the PP.
With 810 possible pts (hawks total goals x3) Sven has 81 granted it is misleading as not every goal has 3 pts given.
|
For those wondering, the Winterhawks have scored 192 goals in Baertschi's 41 games (4.68 per game!). Of course, he's also been in on 42% of the scoring with 81 points so he's not exactly riding coattails.
Greg Nemisz, in contrast, was around 25-30% with the Spitfires during his time in junior.

By no means am I implying he is a bust.....I just dont see him turning us into a top 5 team over a couple season. In the long run I do think he is the answer but I dont want to see the kid overwhelmed with pressure as if he was Crosby.

Sven isn't a generational talent, but I have a feeling he is going to be an important part of this team moving forward.
Not Iginla, but Tanguay or Cammaleri.

Just curious: Do you consider Iginla a generational talent?

I think he fits that mould. Unless someone thinks his generation has no generational talent. More goals than anyone else in his generation

No probably not, I muddled my point a bit.
I was responding to his Crosby pressure comment, then tried to make a Flames roster comparison. Should have been more clear.

Well he shouldn't live in his house until it gets cleaned up....mould can be very toxic to those with poor respiratory systems.
I'm glad the Flames were able to mold their franchise around a fantastic generational talent like Iginla.

In my estimation, this is not the correct definition for a generational talent, and no, I do not believe that every generation has one.

Sure, I get that. I just want to be clear on how we gauge our expectations and excitement. Baertschi is definitely not a generational talent, but this requires some context given that I do not believe there has been a generational talent drafted since 2005, and only three, four or maybe five since 1995. Baertschi looks like a high-end player with the potential to dominate the NHL. I think that Tanguay and Cammalleri comparisons are likely cautiously optimistic, but may end up selling him short. Could he be as good as Iginla? I think he could be—not that I expect him to be, only that it is most certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

That's really not a very accurate way to measure contribution considering if he was in on every single goal the winterhawks scored he would still only have 270 out of 810 pts, its not physically possible to have more than 33%. I know your not dissing him but it makes his numbers look misleadingly worse this way than using % of goals he had a point on which is more fair.

Also I don't listen to sports radio really but managed to catch Sven's interview today. Could not believe the one guy having a friendly interview telling Sven how excited he and the City are about him and his great year and the Flames future...
and then within 3 minutes of ending the interview was saying how (paraphrased) 'prospects are very risky.. lots of kids put up big numbers in the dub and dont pan out... Baertschi is not a bonafide NHLer'
Maybe fair stuff to say but came off very unprofessional to say 2 minutes after getting off the mic with him.

The Sports media in Calgary is some of the worst in North America, they are some of the most jaded, bitter, negative group of people around.
I would rather see Josh Groberman and Leslie Horton follow the Flames daily.

Who did the interview? If it was in the morning I would assume it is either Boomer or Walker.
This is the morning show that will then have a "that's stupid" segment, so I wouldn't look too much into their professionalism. Not sure if many people remember the reaction to signing Olli Jokinen the second time around, but calling it unprofessional would be an understatement.
Prospects are inherently risky, including Sven. While he is putting up incredible numbers, tempering expectations for him can't hurt. If he turns into a Claude Giroux, fantastic. But if he turns into a solid top 6 winger with a 50-60 point ceiling, I will gladly take that as well.

Hopefully the Flames can draft some talent to go along with him. I would have loved to pick up another first rounder or a prospect like Rattie to play with him.
