If the Flames don't go and get another true centerman this season or in the off season, Cammy will probably stick at center- and to be honest, I think he looks good there anyways. We are log jammed at left wing so something has to give sooner or later. Problem with Moss is- he's never playing ! he's always hurt- and I wouldn't be surprised if he is not re-signed in this off season anyways. When he is healthy and is on his game, he's a pretty good player but unfortunately, that only seems to be like 10-15 games a year if we are lucky. If Sven was to come today- I think he needs to play with talent, not grinders- thats not gonna help him develop. Again, if he was here today, I would put him on the wing with Cammy centering and Stempniak (if he was not currently injured) but since he is, I would try Horak/ Comeau on the right side. This is all speculation of course cause we don't know what this team is gonna look like at the beginning of next season. If we got a major number 1 centerman for Iggy next year, then Sven playing with Ollie would be nice too- we will see I guess.
I'd put him with Cammallari centring Glencross on the left side and I've heard Sven can play RW, so I'd try him there. That could be a great line. Glencross and Sven can setup and score so Cammallari should prosper.

I was thinking of GlennX too- that would be sweet if one of them could play RW- I would agree, a wicked line I bet.
I was a little young back when Tkazcuk, Fata, Saprykin, etc. we're all drafted. Unfortunately, they all turned out to be relative busts. Now I'm NOT saying Sven is heading down that path at all. I just am wondering what the excitement/buzz for each of those prospects were at the time. In your opinion has Sven already trumped them in that regard?

I am trying to stay on the level, but in all honesty, I am more excited about Bartschi than I have been about any prospect in a very long time... probably since Cory Stillman.
I was pretty high on Saprykin and Kobasew as well, and for what it's worth, I still like Kobasew even if he didn't reach the ceiling that we all hoped for. I have become jaded over the past few years, but Bartschi is pretty intriguing even to a wet blanket like me.

There hasn't been a 2 point/game player in the WHL for 13 years. And while there's no guarantee he finishes at this pace, he's doing a fine job.
The WHL is the more defensive-minded of the 3 CHL leagues. Bartschi leads the entire CHL in points/game, and it would likely be higher in either of the other two.
He's the best player in the CHL right now. And yeah, while putting up numbers in the CHL won't always translate in the NHL, it's better to put up big numbers than small numbers, in any possible case.

Yeah I think the buzz and excitement over Sven has eclipsed that of Tkaczuk, Fata and Saprykin. Sven is dominating offensively this year and none of the other prospects did that.
Right now he's looking like the best offensive prospect we've drafted since I've been following the team (since '95 or so). Hopefully he fulfills most of the promise he's showed so far.
One of the best signs about him is that he seems to do something every game. Doesn't seem like he's taking nights off at all. Combine that with the rumours about his character and work ethic and you have a guy who should pan out barring injury issues. I'm not sure he really has a big hole in his game right now.

this is where I am up in the air about trading iginla and the other core. I don't think it will be expecting to much out of Sven to make the team out if camp. Having the core around might help and insulate him so he can develop.

Edmonton is a prime example of what happens when you have some talented youth but no core of vets to help shelter them abit their first couple of years. Sure you get some highlight reel goals and pretty plays but in the end, your team just can't compete.
Backlund-Reinhart-Baertschi to start next year as the 3rd line.
Backlund will move to the wing as Cammalleri will be a #2/1B center.
I like the sounds of that. I can see Baertschi starting on the third line and eventually moving up and playing on the 2nd line with Cammy. I also believe Micheal Ferland would be a great fit on the 3rd line- big, smart and skilled.
