Yeah, I never understood the hate for dogs in some muslim communities. Does Islam say that dogs are dirty? Yes. But, nowhere does it say that dogs are evil or anything to that end. More so, I challenge anyone to find a dog owner thinks their dog isn't dirty. I think the Quran/Hadiths just kind of pointed out the obvious fact that dogs aren't very clean and some derainged people took it to an extreme. I mean, if you come in contact with a dog, you go wash up and you're all good. It's not like you're eternally unclean and damned to hell for touching your neighbour's dog. That's always been the way I look at it.

On the whole muslims love butter chicken thing... umm no we don't. My Indian/Pakistani muslims do, but us Arabs (majority of Muslims) don't even know about the existance of the dish. That's as ignorant as saying "Those Christians sure love their Fish and Chips.... well all Brits are Christian and white so, they must all eat the same thing"

I can't believe how many people have never known a Muslim.

In Britain, which has become "ground zero" for Europe's canine controversies, blind passengers are being ordered off buses or refused taxi rides because Muslim drivers or passengers object to their "unclean" guide dogs.
I live in "ground zero" and am a regular user of public transport and can honestly say I've never ever heard of this.

It sounds like total BS and if it did happen, it would be all over the news.

But in the interests of balance and so I can provide a truly informed view, I'm going to buy a stick, a labrador and some Stevie Wonder glasses and will report back my findings in six months.

Unclean in the Abrahamic religions is more like "sinful" and "tainted" that is at the core of the character, rather than anything to do with if you've given your dog a bath.

I tried following the links in the articles back to the original stories, but they are in Dutch or Spanish. Another mentioned how the bus drivers were wrong to not allow guide dogs.
Quote:
While drivers can use their discretion to refuse to carry non-disabled passengers with dogs, they are compelled to accept guide dogs under disability discrimination law.
Yesterday both the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the National Federation of the Blind confirmed the problem was common, and, according to the latter organisation was 'getting worse'.
The tension stems from a strand of Islamic teaching which warns against contact with dogs because the animal's saliva was considered to be impure, the Muslim Council of Britain said.
It urged Muslims to show tolerance and common sense over the issue.
'We need to be flexible on this,' a spokesman said. 'Muslim drivers should have no hesitation in allowing guide dogs into their bus or car.
'If a dog does lick you, it's not the end of the world. Just go home and wash yourself.'

So I'm questioning how balanced this "Stonegate Institute" actually is. If they are publishing inflammatory articles to generate Muslim hate then, judging by this thread, they are succeeding.

This a totally collateral issue in this thread, but there are like 150 million muslims in India. Also, India and Pakistan cuisines share a lot (although admittedly I don't recall ever having Chicken Tikka Masala etc. when in Pakistan.)

I haven't seen any indication these calls for banning dogs are in any way representative of mainstream Islam in the Netherlands. Indeed, all we have is an uncorroborated report from a conservative, islamaphobic source about one supposed Dutch politicial, and an inflamatory, hyperbolic thread title.

Religion is stupid, but so is alarmist, xenophobic journalism.
Well, that's what I meant about putting my foot in my mouth

All religions have weirdos . Not all Christians go after gays, not all Muslims want to ban dogs..whatever. I don't think any religion is more "noble' than any other. I didn't mean it that way.

I believe this is a misinterpretation. Often the biblical solution to being "unclean" is to actually take a bath.

Forget the chicken. I'll take a veggie samosa.

Speaking of the UK and dogs; mky Granddad had a little Jack Russell terrier - it was brown, black with a small patch of white so he named him Birmingham....

Mine would be Mohammed picking up dog crap only to see that it's on the bottom of his flip-flop.

Organized grid search is the only efficient way to go.

How can you be more out of touch with Western Civilization than trying to ban dogs and cats, a $12 billion comfort industry in America alone.

I admire you good sir. The mess my single Golden left last winter was ungodly. I wouldn't wish dealing with that (in a small sized lot) upon my greatest foe.

edit: Great looking dogs btw!
