Default Soldering Help Needed!

Hey CP!

Does anyone out there know someone in Calgary who is skilled at soldering and is willing to do it for a reasonable price?

We have 2 Aqua Vu underwater cameras that need new connectors and the soldering required is more difficult than we have the ability to do.

Thanks!

Any pics? Is it already disassembled, and just needs the part soldered on?

Need the wires soldered to the connector and the connector assembled.

If anyone can help that would be awesome!

A picture more close up of the solder cups would be ideal. Do you have a soldering iron? If you do, tin the wire (solder the strands after they have been twisted together, coating the twisted wire essentially making it a solid wire) and then solder the tinned wires to to corresponding cups. Make sure all the shrouds and covers are on the wire. You won't be able to assemble the threaded parts once the wire it soldered to the cups. Applying heat to the tinned wire and the cup at the same time, with the wire held above the cup allowing gravity to take the solder down into the cup. You should have to only apply heat for a brief moment, enough time to melt the solder onto the cup.

I hope that helps. I have a broken right ankle making it difficult to drive or I would meet you somewhere.

Actually this video shows a much better technique. Tin the cup first...

Looks like a basic 4 pin DIN connector. I'm in Van otherwise I would say bring it down to the shop. I might have a buddy or two that could help out (techs at Global) if you are unable to get it taken care of.

When you're stripping the wire, try not to nick too many of the wires inside the sheath, it looks like a few of the wires are missing some strands.

How did it work out for you?

OT:...if anyone else is reading this might be able to help me...

Where can I buy some 99.7% IPA, somewhere near Chinook Mall would be ideal.

About 90% OT, but why is the "L" in soldering silent? Seems like a weird letter to be silent.

Superstore / Shoppers Drug Mart carry 99%.

B&E might carry something more pure, but its a bit farther away from Chinook.. though not by much.
