Here are a few pics taken on Saturday at CHC and AKL (Christchurch and Auckland).
Auckland has a really cool two level viewing deck that let's you see most of the airport's operations as someone in a control tower would. All of these pics were taken behind glass, so excuse the glare/reflection in some of the pics. Enjoy.

That was our actual aircraft for our flight form AKL to LAX. It's very new I believe. When the wings opened up on landing, all of the exposed hardware was gleaming and the cabin was mint with skycouch's in economy and a few other neat bells & whistles.

A lot of their planes are now painted in that All Black's 'Crazy About Rugby' livery.
I think I have a few of an A320 and a Beechcraft of somesort painted with the same scheme.

WestJet has officially announced that 91% of WestJetters have voted in favor of starting a wholly owned subsidiary and will be submitting a request for proposal for the Bombardier Dash 8-400Q or ATR 72-600.
http://westjet2.mediaroom.com/index....item=633&mrd=0
For those wondering about the differences between the Dash 8-400Q and ATR 72-600 there's an article here:
 http://theflyingengineer.com/aircraf...q400-vs-atr72/
The Dash 8's are faster, more versatile, and have better performance, but the ATR 72's are considerably cheaper and more efficient.

Place you bets! Which aircraft are they going to go with?

I'm hoping for the Q400. A jet in a turboprop costume.

I hope they pick a better name then Westjet Express. Express with a prop plane sounds wrong.

I just read through the link comparing the Q400 & ATR72 (I skimmed it the other day). I'm inclined to think that WestJet will go with the Q400

1) Better passenger experience
2) Their competitors (Air Canada Express & Porter) both fly the Q400
3) More passengers can fit on the plane, only need a marginal amount of passengers to make up the economical difference
4) Q400 has a higher ceiling, and a higher single engine ceiling, I would think for a Calgary based airline, they'd want the highest possible ceilings (cause ya know it's not like you're based in North America's largest mountain range)
5) With the Q400's considerably better climb rate, can the ATR72 depart from Toronto City Centre? It probably can, but I don't know what the regulations are for it's climb rates.

Q400's are only $7m more, and with a decent purchase size that will probably be reduced to close the gap even more.

I'd dare say that you'll see WestProp (or EastProp not sure what I'll call the regional carrier until it's officially named) use Q400s.

I've been in an ATR 42 to such places like Rankin Inlet and Coral Harbour, not an ATR 72 but still a nice plan.

WS will probably go the Q400 route.

One other thing I forgot to mention was the ease of turnaround for the Q400, must easier on employees (and to an extent passengers) than the ATR72. I'd think that reason alone would put Bombardier in the forefront for an airline that has a significant amount of employee control.

My God, I'd love to work in this industry.

The sooner West Jet Regional gets up and running the better. Should open up 250+ flying positions for low-mid hour pilots. Would give the industry in this country a boost for sure.

Boeing currently has a 787 up doing a test flight over the US:
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE236
I remember when they wrote "747" over the US a few months back, I guess they really wanted to outdo themselves and write "787" plus the Boeing logo. Avgeek cool at its best!
