I know exactly how you feel. I had to give my dog up for adoption after 7 years together because of my job (I was away for 1 month stints, and i didn't want to kennel him every time). It was the most difficult decision i've ever made in my life, but I took the time and found perfect adoptive parents. Looking back on it, it was probably the best decision i could have made for him. He is in a loving home, where his new parents adore him and still let me come by and see him from time to time.
My suggestion is make sure you keep your options open, and find the best fit for your dog.
Best of luck. I honestly would take him if I could. He looks adorable.

Spend one afternoon with this dog in our home and you'll understand where we're coming from. A lot of people are too quick to jump to conclusions here.

Exactly, this is why I posted it...probably the words you should have read before adopting.

My GF surprised me with her. She's allergic to dogs but has been able to cope with a Jack Russel in the past. Doing the best I can with the situation man.

You might as well just turn the dog loose in the forest, might save you from the public lashing you're getting right now.

No kidding hey. That's why I love this forum...no one ever jumps to conclusions and everyone is super helpful. Perhaps I'll videotape myself letting her loose and post it on here. I have no soul.

C'mon. Releasing a dog into the forest is silly. You should eat him instead.

I'll ask my friends that are dog owners/former dog owners. I'd love to take the dog, but potentially being out of town for school, I can't possibly do that to a dog that isn't already used to my parents and my dog.

If that's the case you may want to remove the call for 'best offer' and go with finding the best home. You took on the responsibility of caring for the dog, and that includes making sure it finds a good home if it won't work at yours.

You can also check out rescues in the area. Some will take owner surrenders, some won't, and some will only in special circumstances. 4x4 mentioned Little Mutts rescue and you can try:
- AARCS http://albertaanimalrescuecrew.com/
- Pawsitive Match http://pawsitivematch.org/
- OopsaDaizy http://www.oopsadazy.com/ (this, or little mutts, might be your best bet)
- Pound Rescue www.poundrescue.com
- Heaven Can Wait www.heavencanwait.ca
For shelters, the Calgary Humane Society is low-kill, but you mentioned she's showing signs of aggression towards kids. Depending on what those 'signs' are, she may not come to a good end there. The Cochrane Humane Society is no-kill: http://www.cochranehumane.ca/
Personally, I think this poor dog should go to a rescue. They'll put her in a foster home where she'll get care, training, and then get adopted out to a family that is screened by the rescue society to make sure she doesn't end up in the exact situation she is now. This poor gal's been bounced around enough in her life. JRTs aren't dogs for everyone which is why it's so important for everyone - not just OP - to research what kind of breed will best fit their lifestyle.

We just did a ton of research on JRT's and learned a lot of stuff actually. Like Flames Girl said, it turns out jack russels can require a lot of training. We've decided to really commit to rehabbing her for another couple months and if there is notable improvement, we're going to keep her. Unfortunately it the process can be pretty harsh towards the dog until they're "fixed" If we don't see improvement, you'll probably see this thread bumped in a few months time.

Maybe the dog has trust issues after its original owners gave her up...thats why its starts whinning and crying when its alone in the back yard. It may pass when the dog gets more used to its surroundings, its only been a month.

Good choice- if you give the dog a chance, and if you do actually find a trainer to help (should you feel you need it) then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
