Default Any Oil and Gas Land Researchers ( Landmen) here?

Well I have been doing this for a few months now.. Haven't been promoted to Landman yet but have taken and completed a Landman training course here in Oklahoma.

I am asking because my wife is really putting the pressure on me to move to Calgary. I am considering it now ( bc 5 yrs of her pressure is wearing me down)and was curious how it was up there. Is it easy to get into etc... Here I pretty much had to know someone to get the gig. It's a great job with great pay. Only problem with it is I am away from home 5 days a week. Anyway.. Any info on this career in YYC?

Why don't you be a Landman in the USA? From my understanding a guy can make some amazing money doing that job in the US compared to Canada where the crown owns almost all the mineral rights.

Depends on what you do, there are Landmen (mineral) and Land Agents (surface). To do minerals you don't need any certification or qualification to do the work. To do surface you need to take the Land course at Olds College, which you can do online. Then you need to do I think 10 supervised and 15 unsupervised deals until you get your Land Agent's license.

There are a lot better places in Alberta to be one, more demand in Edmonton & northern Alberta, or even Saskatchewan, but there are also hundreds of Land Agents in Calgary so it's not a terrible place to be.

Yes I agree with you but like I said my wife wants to move back home to Calgary. I am just weighing options at this point. I just started in this industry here and would love to stay. I also have heard happy wife, happy life.

Yeah, those mineral landmen are trained at 7-11 and are complete divs.

The OP is curious about land work in Alberta, I think those facts are relevant. I don't really care one way or the other, I was under the impression you didn't need a certificate or anything formal to be a mineral landman.

Perhaps this the driving force behind your wife's pressure?

You might be on to something.

Say, do you think the reason the Flames have lost so many games this year is because they didn't score more goals than their opponents?

Totally agree, those guys appear to be nothing but a burn rate on G&A.

Lol. Is there some deeper meaning hidden in your post? I'm not trying to be a jackass here, I was making fun of you pointing out the obvious. Apparently I missed something profound?

Ok. And for the record, I don't find anything unusual about a 2011 join date calling me out on driving.
