Looks like this will make a lot of nerds mess the front of their pants.

The second LOTR is the only movie I've ever seen in theatres (I see 2-3 per month in theatres) that I've fallen asleep during. EVER. Amongst hundreds of films and movies.

I did, however, read the Hobbit in grade 6 (forced to), and didn't completely hate it- so I might give this "story" another chance.

I just think that if you watch it objectively, without the Tolkien branding, it just isn't that good.

I get it though, people like the brand and they like the universe that the movie is set in. It's like Star Wars, Transformers, etc... It doesn't matter how poor the dialogue is or how transparent the plot is, people will love it regardless.

If that was a trailer for a movie by John Doe and it was called; "Happy Little Elf Adventure", I doubt people would be this aroused about it.

As someone else mentioned, maybe they will have a more compelling trailer next year, but just based on this trailer, I can't get excited about this film.

I know everyone and their dog has read The Hobbit and if you have seen or read The Lord of The Rings you know that Gandolf and Bilbo don't die....so the movie is definitely going to lose some suspense in the scenes where Bilbo's and Gandalf's lives are threatened. This movie should have been done first.

I hope the internet doesn't spoil what Smog is going to look like. It has been a long time since I have seen a movie and been suprised by something...the internet seems to ruin everything these days. We already know what Gollum is going to look like so not sure why they hid him in the shadows in the trailer.

I actually have to agree with FlamesAddiction here and say that just was not a very good trailer. I love The Hobbit, my father reading it to me as a young child is one of the cornerstones of childhood. I’ve been thoroughly excited for this film since it first was announced but I have to say I was fairly disappointed by that.

I find the casting of a younger Thorin odd. Shouldn't he be old and grey?

I think there is a glimpse of Gandalf investigating Sauron in Mirkwood.

Does Galadriel appear in the book?

No. http://www.theonering.net/torwp/the-...ers/galadriel/

The character of Galadriel does not appear in the book The Hobbit. However, from Peter Jackson’s comments about including the backstory of Dol Guldur and the White Council, and that Cate Blanchette is one of the actors that may reprise their role, it is likely that Galadriel will appear in one or both of the Hobbit movies.

Will Beorn appear in the movie?

Yes. http://www.theonering.net/torwp/the-...racters/beorn/

Well if LOTR is anything to go by, it won't have poor dialogue and plot. LOTR wasn't Star Wars (episodes 1-3) and it certainly wasn't Transformers. Those movies obviously had horrible dialogue, plot, script, you name it. Those movies just full on sucked.

The amazing thing about the Lord of the Rings trilogy was how well it was executed. Couldn't have been much more true to the source material and they couldn't have really done a better job of putting that universe together in a well crafted film.

You may not be a fan of LOTR, but in no way were they poorly made films.

Q. What will be included in the two Hobbit movies?

According to the Empire Online interview with PJ and GDT (link above), the two movies will include all of the iconic moments in the book, The Hobbit, as well as being expanded to follow other events that occur ‘offstage.’ This includes the White Council and Gandalf’s comings and goings to Dol Guldur. Pj: “We expanded out the universe a lot more so that we weren’t just staying with Bilbo and the Dwarves on their journey, as the book pretty much does. We started to expand some of what’s happening to Gandalf outside of that journey.” Things we know are included so far:

- backstory of Thrain, Thorin’s father
- Beorn
- Spiders
- The White Council
- Gandalf’s journeys to Dol Guldur
- The three trolls (Tom, Bert, William)
- Sauron ( including some of his history)

I don't know how much people were expecting in a teaser trailer. They haven't even finished principal photography yet, and the special effects won't be anywhere near close to finished.

I liked it. Then I went and re-watched the three LOTR trailers just because. Now I wish I had no family staying over the whole of Christmas so I can have a LOTR marathon.

I fell asleep watching that 2 minute trailer. That doesn't bode well for a 3 hour movie.

Not a fan of this, never was. Just not my thing. Hope you guys enjoy it.

I can get this part. After visiting the sites of the Shire, Mount Doom and other set locations in New Zealand, the atmosphere and environment is what people really buy into - and when you visit, you can't help but get that same feeling from what you watched in the movies. The epic landscapes, the detailed sets (even though they were generally dismantled at the time), and the mood they established (the Top of Mount Ruapehu (Mt. Doom) was creepy at times) really adds to one's opinion of the films.

It does establish mood though. And people will often overlook plot deficiencies or differences from the book if they can buy into the atmosphere.

There was a very brief scene in the Fellowship of the Ring where the Hobbits are camped out in front of the three petrified trolls. I wonder if those trolls will look the same in the Hobbit movie?

I love the Hobbit, love the trilogy and can't wait. I find it fascinating that the whole universe resulted from a bedtime story Tolkien told his children. Eventually it evolved into a rich mythos that Tolkien felt was missing from the history of Britain.

Great trailer, I really like that song all the dwarves started singing in Bilbo's house. Very ominous and dark. Peter Jackson knows what he is doing, rebuilding original sets from the LOTR trilogy and utilizing new technology without completely relying on it.

I can't wait.

Yes, the trailer was sorely lacking in car crashes, explosions and boobies.
