Still cant confirm it was a jealous ex.... talking about this with a buddy last night who is a couple months from finishing his criminal justice degree and he told me that a common discussion in their class was media and how media will make a story up based on little information and continually change it as more is released.
This is fairly common knowledge to most of us but its been interesting following this from when the news first broke and hearing numerous different prospectives. "Sources Say" D'oh boy and Francis' must be behind this.

I think a lot of this info is being taken from facebook and the like, so while it may not be 100% on point it's probably pretty close. The jealous ex scenario seems to make sense, especially when you add in the suicide of the killer.

I caught the tail end of something on the CTV News at lunch, and some girl basically confirmed that Derek Jensen (killer) killed his ex and the other two people in the car.

So I just looked on facebook and if this is the same Derek Jensen his profile pic is him with a rifle I assume skeet shooting.

His interests include skeet shooting and explosives.

It's a shame people don't seek help before they are drowning in the deep end.

That's likely the guy as they brought up he was a hunter on the news.

It will be interesting to see how this time frame plays out.

They left Lethbridge at 1 a.m. and the shots were being fired at 3:30 in Claresholm.

As we all know, it doesn't take 2.5 hours to get to Claresholm - more like an hour probably - so you would logically suppose this group stopped in Claresholm for some length of time, perhaps an hour and a half and, more logically, came in contact with the shooter, an ex-boyfriend of one of the ladies shot.

How did that happen? Where did that happen? How long was that first meeting? What happened during that meeting? Was there a physical confrontation then?

Fortunately, someone lived who can tell the tale.

There was some mention of them being at the 7-11 in Claresholm earlier in this thread I believe...so its possible.

But most likely we won't hear the full story or the whole background. RCMP will probably release a name of the offender, media will piece together the background, and that would be it. I highly doubt the RCMP will give a play by play leading up to it.

Well, the other question is "Why stop in Claresholm at all."

And no one stops at a 7-11 for an hour and a half.

And what other businesses might be open in Claresholm at 2 a.m.? A local truck stop restaurant, as one example? Did the ex-girlfriend convince her compatriots to help her knock on the ex-boyfriend's door to get some property she'd left behind and an argument ensued followed by a physical confrontation that went badly for the ex-boyfriend who then chased them with guns? Did she call him ahead of time and tell him she'd be stopping by to pick up some stuff? Was the ex-girlfriend flying to Fredricton as well or was she just dropping these guys off?

Imaginations are running rampant!!

Just saying, an hour and a half in Claresholm from 2 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. is a long, long time and, if you're heading to Calgary for a flight, why stop there at all? Were you killing time at the truck stop so you didn't have to kill time at the airport? If so, why leave Lethbridge at 1 a.m.?

It just seems there was probably a purpose for being in Claresholm and a long time was spent there. How did that involve the killer? A random encounter or a previously scheduled meeting?

What was happening in that hour and a half in Claresholm is probably where the meat of this story really lies.

None of my beeswax of course. Just interesting.

Maybe the shooter held them at gunpoint for an hour and a half before shooting them.

Is there even such a thing as a "criminal justice degree"? Most of the CJ guys I knew were at LCC, and while I would never want to cast aspersions those gentlemen were largely not pursuing degrees of any sort...

Nice rumour-mongering, Cow. I don't think there is an all-night restaurant in Clairsholme (I might be wrong) - there would be one in Nanton I believe.

There aren't a lot of restaurants in Claresholm to begin with. Tim Hortons and 7-11 are the only ones that might be open all night.

Roy's Place, Dairy Queen, Douro's, Casa Roma are the other ones of the top of my head. I doubt they are open that long though.

I've personally been at that same 7-11 many times in the middle of the night coming home from Flames games, and there is always shady stuff going on there.

I just googled it but I will look into it further as I know he is taking a 4 yr program.

Edit: I hope so as he has been working on this for nearly 4 years.

It's possible the creep was following the victims and the victims were trying to get away driving in circles. That could explain why it took them so long.

If that's the case, they would have been better off driving to a police station.
