The iPad version is also free. I can't believe the regular price for this is $10.

I picked up tweetbot on the recommendation of some people following the recent twitter upgrade and am overly impressed. It has come a long, long way.

Flight Control HD is free today. The latest version added an in-app purchase option for rewinds which sucks. Wish they gave an option to earn rewinds instead of just having to pay for them. Regardless, a pretty fun game.

It has probably been mentioned already but Mirror's Edge, Zombie Gunship and Infinity Quest are all free and great time wasters.

It's dicey comparing the price of an iOS app against its packaged, retail counterpart. I think I paid $70 for Chrono Trigger when it was really new.
$10 puts it in the top 0.2% (or something like that) of iOS games in the app store. If it's better than 99.8% of the games in the app store, then it's worth it.

Why? Software and content is software and content. I don't think the physical manufacture and distribution of software accounts for an overly large proportion of its retail price.
I'm not being argumentative, I'm genuinely curious why people perceive mobile apps should cost less than the same software on other platforms, for the same content and functionality.

I don't think many people think about their mobile app consumption in a "what would this identical content cost me in another ecosystem" context. They compare against competing apps in the same ecosystem, like "why is Infinity Blade II $7 and Chrono Trigger $10?".

From what I'm reading, Chrono Trigger is worth $20 on the DS and should be less than $10 on the iPhone because they really messed up the controls. Console games do not translate well onto the iPad. It seems that games made FOR a tablet seem far more fun than games made FOR a console and ported. The virtual gamepad never seems to move quite the way that you wanted it to.
In any case, Chrono Trigger has to have a better story line than Infinity Blade II.

The new score mobile app 3.0 is hands down the best app made for sports in Canada. Huge improvements and better than tsn's app. One thing I would add is little pictures to the news stories. Minor gripe tho

Appvent Calendar 2011. Usually some fun little time-waster games come out of it:

Grand Theft Auto 3 is out today for $5. Haven't had a chance to play it but somebody at Kotaku said it felt good.

It does. I hate virtual gamepads less than most but in about 15 minutes of game time it seems like this one is easier to get used to that most?
Runs well on iPad 1 as well. Looks like a win so far.

I played a little tonight. Am I missing something with the guns? Do you really just face a character and start unloading rounds? Either I'm doing it wrong or it's totally broken. I don't know how much love I'm feeling for the driving buttons either. I love that the movement "joystick" moves around in the space depending on where your thumb lies, but the driver controls are fixed and (at least on iPhone) I found myself missing the left/right buttons often. Still fun though, but those quirks concern me. May have to switch to iPad for the larger buttons.

One of the best shooter games from the arcades is now on the app store. Check out Bug Princess (also known as Mushihimesama). It's $5.
You're better off getting a used copy of Chrono Trigger for the DS then paying $10 to play it on iOS. Everything about the DS version is perfect. None of the control problems, a font that doesn't look like something out of a flash game, and it's not a 600MB chunk taken out of your phone.

I got about 3 seconds into GTA on my iPad 1 and *crash*. *sigh* This does not bode well.

I'm trying really hard to like it, but I just don't. The driving is incredibly tough and my fingers constantly wander off the buttons which makes for some spectacular crashes. The shooting is far worse. One single "go kill this guy" mission took me about 5 tries last night. Virtual joystick controls drive me up the damn wall. I probably won't go back to it.
