Abed, on Chuck, singing Oh Canada in French.

I couldn't make that up.

And Shirley with a cameo too just to make sure you weren't confused about the point.

I've never watched Chuck, but I YouTube'd the video and Danny Pudi was awesome in his cameo (loved Yvette Nicole Brown's small bit too). Is all Chuck like that, or was it just the awesomeness of Danny Pudi?

I'm in and out on Chuck . . . . . . when I run out of DVR'ed stuff I really want to see, then I'll put it on.

I have noticed more and more "Canada" references on American comedy shows or movies in recent years, mostly in humourous and unexpected ways that even Canadians would laugh at.

Interesting Chuck would find our national anthem worthy of a bit . . . . from the Olympics through hockey and baseball, most Americans probably know it . . . .

The guy from Ottawa on 30 Rock last year was hilarious and I think they also had a reference to our national anthem as well.

We're like the weird cousins or something. Its all good.

Well, when 75 percent of the writers are ivy league educated or Canadian, you're bound to see some high-brow stuff

"I'm just honoured to be nominated in the same category as Sir Dave Coulier."

One of my favourite lines from that show.

Also, to compliment the cast as Batman heroes posted before...

Back when I was in broadcasting we were talking with a woman who works for a TV station in the States, and she was saying there are tons of Canadian writers working for U.S. sitcoms. She actually estimated it at 60% which I think is absurdly high and not correct, but the jist of it is that there are a lot.

Most of those Canadian jokes you hear on U.S. shows are probably written by Canadians.

I discovered this show way too recently, and may have even commented in this thread, about this show, pages back, but may have forgotten after a few drinks. It's too good to go away! .

Last night's Community was one of my favourite episodes of all time. That Alison Brie song had me almost falling off the couch laughing.
I liked how Pierce roped Shirley into the Glee Club.

I just started watching the first season on DVD, only got into the show around the late part of season 2.

I love this show so much, it was great right from the start. By the first Halloween episode they were hitting their stride and just knocking it out of the park.

I watched the foosball episode and thought the show was lame. Was it just a bad episode? Should I give it another chance or is it a case of if I didn't like that episode I won't like any of them?

I think you have to watch from the beginning of the series to understand the characters. Otherwise I think most of the humor would be lost on you. It took me a while to get into the show; at least halfway into the first season.

I also don't like this turds face. I think it would get in the way of my enjoyment of the show regardless of how good it could be.

Yeah, but you don't like Parks and Rec either, which I personally find funnier than Community (these two shows are my favorite comedies).

My guess would be that these shows just aren't your style of humor. I'm not insulting you, just giving my opinion.

I like Parks and Rec and the Office bro-dude. I just didn't find this show that funny, maybe I'll try another episode.

It's certainly not for everyone. I love Community; my wife, however, just can't understand why I'm doubled over in laughter at times.

There's a few things that make Community different that I can understand people not liking or understanding.

1. No laugh track - some people just don't know what to think is funny without it. The more the laughtrack the better the show as obviously it's funnier, no laugh track? Then it can't be the funny.

2. The show is narrated by a character in the show in the continuity of the show. Abed breaks the 4th wall so often it could confuse people. The character says it's a bottle episode, and it is, but they aren't supposed to know that, but they do, so why don't they leave, but they can't, brain meltdown.

3. The show is a sitcom about sitcoms. If you like the classic sitcom and TV show premise, Community is that twisted slightly, could throw potential audience members off.

4. Community is very character driven. It took my girlfriend a while to get into it because she needed to form the attachment to the characters. She also doesn't Joel McHale or Chevy Chase so it was a bit of a challenge for her too.

Unlike most TV shows the way to get into Community is to start with their best stuff. The pilot gives the background but isn't as strong as the developed show. Google top 10 episodes and work your way back. After that you'll pick up on the nuances that aren't spoonfeed to you.

That's the thing, like old Simpsons, the show doesn't spoonfeed you ny jokes. They'll fire several at you at onces, some you may get, some you may not, but they won't say "this is funny because" or have a laugh track to say "this bere is the joke".
