Don't kill me but....

overrated... Firefly... not bad Scify in my books, just not close to great by any means.

I thought SGU was some of the best Scify in the last half of the last season, but I really didn't like the first season.

+1 for Deadwood being underrated. Also I don't know how it did in the ratings, but as it was canceled - Rome.

Also underrated- DS9, Parks and Rec (Swanson's reaction to the computer in the intro a couple episodes ago was amazing).

Also I don't know if my reasoning for this one qualifies as overrated but, "The Thin red line". Huge nominations at the oscers, great cast, great acting by the cast, great effects, and a important battle.... but I can't stay awake in it.

I re-watched it after the pacific, and it was interesting to see the two different takes on a same battle.

Underrated; I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but for me, it's King of the Hill. It had a long run, so it's hard to justify but man I think it's one of the best shows ever.

It was such a sweet show, the relationship between Bobby and Hank was so real and despite it being a cartoon it never strayed into the insaneness of a show like Family Guy that ran besides it for so long but got so much more rave reviews. When it was at it's best it was just but gusting hilarious.

I just loved it, still do, but whenever I seem to mention it I usually get a "Oh, that show".

That's funny because I would list The Thin Red Line in the underrated category. An incredible movie completely overshadowed by Saving Private Ryan.

Underrated (as it was cancelled): Arrested Development. So many laughs.

Come on Fox!

Overrated/Underrated Christmas Edition.

Overrated: National Lampoons Christmas Vacation- It's a good Christmas movie, but not the classic many deem it to be. Outside of Chevy Chase's and Randy Quaid's characters I despise every other character in the series.... Except Ethan Embry winning the four cars in the Vegas Vacation; now that was awesome.

Underrated: A Christmas Story- I know people in the know really like it, but rarely do I see it mentioned among the greats by younger people. The movie is a true Christmas Classic and is an astute representation about how almost every boy and girl views Christmas.

Underrated: Drive- Best movie of 2011 in my opinion. Pretty sure it is the only movie released this year I have actually watched more than two times.

Overrated: Both Deadwood and Six Feet Under- I have no idea why I didn't take to these two shows, but they are the only two highly recommended shows I did not really take to. I like both Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant, but the rest of the characters never really drew me in; Molly Parker in particular. For Six Feet Under, I guess I was expecting something different; it just didn't hold my attention like The Wire, Oz, or The Sopranos.

Underrated: Oz- the last couple seasons weren't that great, but Oz is the second best drama HBO has had (behind the Wire). Addictive story lines, great characters, and phenomenal acting even set it apart from The Sopranos imo. Take a character like Ryan O'Reily; I hated the character for the first season, liked him in the second, hated him again in the third, and so on. I love shows that make you despise a character in one episode, then love them in the next.

Overrated: Family Guy- Awful show.

Underrated: American Dad- Best animated show still on the air.

Over rated, deadliest catch. I watch it, but it's a lot of the same things every season. Deck hands work like crazy...captain can't find crab...everyone gets crabby. Find crab, make money, everyone happy.

Under rated is River Monsters, at least the location varies and it's a different fish.

Good choice. I don't watch many of those fishing shows, but I have watched every episode of River Monsters.

Not that I actually believe most of stories and legends told on the show, but Benjamin Wade seems to be a legit fisherman, and I love it when he does crazy over the top moves to try and get his catch.

I not not entirely sure if he is being protected by the crew most of the time, but he seems to put his life on the line all the time.

Overrated: The Wire

All I ever heard was that it was the greatest series ever created, even if the ratings didn't necessarily show it. I couldn't even make it through the first season. Snorefest.

Underrated: The Drew Carey Show, Deadwood

The Drew Carey show probably has to be my favorite sitcom of all time. I think the most appealing part of it was how much fun it seemed like the cast had making it.

Don't even get me started on Deadwood. To end that show after 3 seasons, and the way they did, makes me cry myself to sleep at least once a week. If the story behind the cancellation is true, I want to high-five David Milch for creating such an awesome show...then I want to kick him in the sack for basically abandoning it.

I have recommended the show many times with the qualifier that they have to 'endure' the first 6 or 7 episodes of season 1. I think i hated the first season more than you! Glad I kept going though.

I encourage you to keep going and I think your mind will explode once you finish seasons 2, 3, and 4 (5 was ok). Characters like Bunk, Stringer Bell, Omar and many others are truly some of the most well developed ones I've watched.

Your loss.

Giving up on The Wire before the end of the first season is like abandoning a classic novel after the first few chapters. It's a slow-burner of a show that takes quite a while to get going. It took my wife and I at least half of the first season* to be really grabbed by it, but once we got hooked, we both joined the chorus of superfans who call it the best series ever made.

*Spoiler describing the precise moment in the first season when we were really sucked in:
Spoiler!

From my understanding, Milch abandoned the show in order to focus on the short lived John from Cincinnati.

The most overrated show has to be Storage Wars. It's so phoney the way they interact with one another and all the stuff that is obviously planted in these lockers that are bought.

The most underrated show has to be American Pickers. I can't get enough of watching what these guys discover when going from one place to another. And the history behind the items they buy.
