so i just got Shaw hooked back up, and i'm curious about the guide (regular HD-PVR, not the gateway setup). right now on my HDTV the guide is only at 4:3 so i have black bars on either side. is there a way to make it fill up the entire screen? it's been awhile since i've used a Shaw guide so i can't remember

Is it just the guide that is 4:3, or is the actual video 4:3 as well? I know that you can change your aspect ratio, and whether or not it stretches to 16:9 by (starting with the guide on), pressing power and then menu immediately after. This takes you to the menu where you can change a few settings.

I think it is the other way around. With the box on, press power (to turn it off) and then immediately hit menu. It is counter-intuitive, and I can't confirm it as I'm not near my box right now, but I believe that it should work.
It is just a weird little menu that comes up and you can change some settings. This works with the Motorola/Pace boxes as far as I know.

well i got to that menu but there was no way to change the aspect ratio of the guide. it's weird though, the small on/off button at the bottom of the Shaw remote does do something to the guide. it lets you cycle through the normal view, 2 guides squished side-by-side (that takes up the full 16:9 screen), and 2 guides stacked on top of each other. not sure what you'd ever use those settings for

I think there's some confusion about what each other is talking about.
When Bell/CTV/Globe Media released the first High Def version of Discovery Channel Canada in the mid-2000's, it was a simulcast of Discovery SD. Then, sometime between then and now, they rebranded it as Discovery World HD, and for quite a while there was no HD simulcast of Discovery in Canada.
My original point was that
a) It's about time Bell/CTV/Globe Media put together an actual HD version of the channel, and
b) if it's been around for 6 months on Bell, the the other providers have been slow to add it (still not on Optik). Usually this is the case of both involved parties having their noses in the air during licensing negotiations.
Nothing you don't already know, just better explaining what i meant.
Personally I have no idea why they felt compelled to rebrand the channel as Discovery World in the first place.

Anyone getting these channels yet? Or has it been delayed?

I just checked via my Slingbox, and nothing yet. I would imagine that it will take a little while for everyone's guides to reflect the changes, assuming of course, that the channels will in fact be launched at some point today.

I'm a bit surprised I haven't had an email from Shaw about this. I had heard today is the day from several sources though, including from Shaw representatives, unless there's been a delay of some sort (maybe a scramble to add F/X Canada too since Telus is adding it?).

What channels are these supposed to be on? There's only two empty channels between 200 and 246, and there's nothing above 246 yet.

Space is still the only one that works properly for me. Discovery and Bravo are just feeds of the SD channels. BNN still doesn't work and AP is a subscription service.
