Shocked that the league owning a franchise could turn into a clusterfrack like this. What a joke.
I'm no laker supporter but this is bullsnot, either let the GM manage his team or fold the frakking franchise. Pathetic.

Holy crap! Shocked to see the trade get axed. The whole difference with this CBA is that it was going to be harder for stars to dictate where they were going to go, and easier for teams to entertain trade offers. This scenario -- with about six teams bidding heavily for Paul -- is exactly how it was supposed to work! If the owners don't like it, might as well rip up the CBA. So what now, are they going to just kill the Hornets by forcing them to hang on to Paul until he hits free agency? Are they going to run all the trade offers through the BoG until they find a trade that's somehow less offensive?
I said this a few pages ago: the optics of the league owned Hornets trading Paul to LA could look horrible. This looks far worse. Next couple days are going to be hilariously awkward for the league and for these teams.

Maybe because the Kardashan does not want to move out of LA.

That was a horsecrap deal for NO. Sure not as bad as other deals that has happened in the NBA but a garbage deal for NO nonetheless.
Amazing that people whine and cry about Miami doing things the right way and signing guys as FA's but these BS trades are somehow great and good for the league.

Pretty shocked that they actually overturned that deal.
Dan Gilbert from the Cavs apparently sent the following email: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slu...s_trade_120811
I know he was joking about the Washington Generals thing...... but I'd bet you that hits home with fans of 25 teams in the league right now.

haha, in general, he's whining about lost revenue sharing. He'd be fine if it made the Lakers pay more Luxury Tax so he got a bigger cheque. What a valiant stand!

It's not a crap deal at all and people that actually know the game know that as well. I know that your thing to be that grumpy old man that hates everything in this world, but it was a good deal get over it.
The heat didn't nothing the right away, we will just sign Paul for free then instead of actually giving good player back, unlike those two losers on heat deserting there teams.
Dan Gilbert is a joke he blocked the trade because of lost. Your going to see law suits and CP is not happy right now. He wants to be a laker.
If Dwight Howard goes to the nets for that crap the league better veto that and any trade that involves a star.

I am the one who is grumpy in this?
You are crying like a little baby because the league didn't bend over backwards to try and give your team another title.
Nobody on the Heat deserted their team. Bosh and James signed as FA's after many years of being the only talent on their pathetic organizations. Bosh even agreed to a sign and trade so the Raptors could get something back.
This deal ensures that the NO Hornets are mediocre to crap for the next ten years. Good enough to not pick in the top 5 but bad enough to finish just out of the play-offs.
If trading Paul they should at least get something back that gives them a chance at getting an elite player. In the NBA without an elite guy you might as well put out a highschool team.

Lol you mean a trade exception. Great deal the raptors got. Bosh is a career loser like James.

Here's the deal that the Raptors could have easily got and deserved, 0 for Bosh.
Career loser? They have been in the league for what 7 years? James has made it to the finals twice despite spending most of his time with the least talented team in the league.

After reading Gilbert's letter, I understand why he's upset. Simply, Lakers get the better player and save money in the deal. I thought from a basketball perspective it was a simple deal not heavily tilted towards anyone at all, but saving that much and not giving up a draft pick is kinda odd given the situation. I'm thinking that it will be somewhat tweaked with picks, money, and everything will be alright.

I think that this is more about Howard than anything... Paul to LA wasn't, on its own, an unbeatable move, since it leaves them incredibly weak on big men. But the fact that they hung on to Bynum which set up the possibility of making a pitch for Howard is what had the rest of the league so pissed off.
The timing of Howard coming out and saying that he wants to go to the Nets was also interesting... just as this was all blowing up. I wonder if he wanted to remove himself from this whole circus. If Howard was traded to NJ first, I don't think this would have exploded the way it did.
The league had plenty of opportunity to legitimately address competitive balance issues in the CBA negotiations. Instead, they largely ignored competitive balance and focused on maximum savings. Maybe Stern told the players that this CBA would make these sorts of moves impossible. If they believed him, they weren't doing their homework, since every pundit out there knew competitive balance was tweaked but certainly not fixed.

Brandon Roy's career is officially over. Thankfully, Greg Oden accepted a 1 year deal from the Blazers.

Bush league move by management.
The league has to let the GM's do what they think is best for their teams, they can't veto a trade because they "feel it is not in the best interest of the league".
Way to make the relationship between players and owners even more hostile with that decision. Now you have a group of players who are all stuck with teams that they know tried to trade them.
