Rattie is to Bartchi what Howse was to Horak. If someone is scoring goals look to whoever is feeding him the puck and giving them space. A good shot is worth less than good instincts and work ethic.

Or if his defensive game was passable...it's something he's working on this year, but he'll never be even average in his own end. Bartschi plays a more complete game and could probably play in the top 9 while Rattie is a top 6 or bust prospect.

The goals to assists ratio is concerning lends more analysis to the stacked team factor.

Taylor Hall benefitted from playing on a stacked team. That's a minor concern IMO as it goes both ways where guys on bad teams get lots of points based on getting more ice time than they would on a stacked team and no burden of expectations on their shoulders.

I do understand the concern that his point totals are inflated because he plays on a good team, but playing on winning team is good sign. The fact that Sven is on the top line of a top team is only good news to me. Besides a prospect coming up in a system with success is just what the flames need.

Yes that's proving my point. Hall's goals to assists ratio in junior was much better than Sven's. You have to be able to SCORE in junior. Racking up assists on a stacked team is great and all but it doesn't really prove that Sven is going to be a first line talent. All I'm saying is that we need to temper these numbers somewhat.

Over a full year in the WHL, Bartschi is on pace for around 40ish goals.

After watching some games last season and this one...I believe Sven will be an elite winger in the NHL.
His complete skill set as well as his vision and energy are "stacked".

Baertschi's absolutely insane assist per game rate (1.82) is skewing the fact that his goal per game pace is 0.55.

That translates to:

40 goals, 131 assists

171 points in 72 games

40 goals is pretty darn good for a 19 year old in just his second season in the WHL.

Considering how much worse Rattie was without Baertchi in the lineup, I'm not concerned about the stacked team factor. It's like Iginla with Cammy vs Iginla with Tanguay. When he's with Tanguay he gets more goals, but when he's with Cammy, he gets more assists. Cammy's a sniper and since Iggy draws defensemen to him, it makes it easy to Cammy to get open and get his shot off. Same thing with Rattie and Baertchi. When Baertchi is in the linup, teams try to cover him knowing that Rattie usually won't score without someone setting him up, but Beartchi finds a way to get the puck either to Rattie, or to an open player who gets it to Rattie anyways.

Passing is simply part of Bartschi's game.

RNH only had 31 goals in junior last year. Who cares? Bartschi is a great shooter, but he's a great playmaker as well.

Him being a great playmaker and a two way player, I wonder if he's ever played centre?

Anyone who has seen bartschi play know that his numbers aren't inflated because he is playing on a stacked team, but ross' and rattie's numbers are inflated because of playing with bartschi. Watch the portland vs vancouver game friday night at 8 pm on sportsnet and you will see why. He is going to be a top forward for the flames very soon.

Quick question. It's fairly clear that a goalie with a high potential ceiling (ala Roy) is better off on a poor team because they face more shots thus eventually improving their overall performance. Could the same be said about a skater? Maybe a defenseman, as they would somewhat be in the same boat as the goalie, or even a defensively minded forward. But what of those in the offensive catagory? Would a Paul Coffey type d-man or sniper/playmaker type forward be better off, improvement wise, on a terrible team? Or would the lack of help hinder them overall?

I ask this for Irvings sake, as well as Baertchi. The Heat are a fairly sound team, backed by arguably the best goalie in the A right now. If the team around him was brutal, would it be better for him? I think so. But if Baertchi didn't have anyone to play with, would he be as good off in terms of developement?

I'm living and teaching in Taiwan... is there anyway to watch the game online?

So I'm not sure where this Assist/Goal ratio thing came from, but history does not seem to show it's all that bad

2nd year junior numbers:
Crosby 66-102-168 1.55 a/g
Richards 39-92-131 2.36 a/g

I would argue that players will develop playmaking skills and team play better on top teams as they will learn that they can distribute the puck to thier team mates and be just as, if not more successful that way personally while having a lot more team success.
