Hold on... So, Netminder is part of Occupy YYC?

This refers to companies, not specific individuals, but companies are made of people.

Weird, because I know people that work at a lot of those companies and they don't control a damn thing, but since "companies are made of people" I guess they must be going to secret meetings or something

Yeah, those companies are made up of thousands of employees and millions of shareholders.

That's a pretty far cry from the 1%

Just sayin.

don't you know that we've been mislead all along, there is only one player on the global stock exchange, its the secretive Shareholder family, an extended family of 100 people that control all of the worlds shares.

Of course Shareholder is actually an alias.

If you break the code

Its actually

I applaud your goal of community sustainability, but why would you want to be associated with those occupy bozos? As you said, everyone just thinks of the tents and a bunch of idiot hippies. Pick your battle and focus on that. Put together "Sustainable Calgary" or something (patent pending) and then start with your initially small projects.
Sustainable Calgary... I like it!

For me it honestly doesn't matter if we do things under the banner of Occupy or not. Awareness is awareness and that's what I'm working on right now.

Accounting degree? Ick. Not me. I have dyscalculia and math is my worst enemy. I'll pass the idea along though.

That brings me to the question Hockeyguy15 asked about my level of education. The honest answer is, no post secondary as yet. If I were to go for a degree it would be in English. But I know way too many people with English degrees working crappy jobs. So I just read tons of books, not only literature but style analysis as well. It's not too hard to self educate if you are determined. And it's way cheaper!

Someone else on here said it's not the occupy blog getting attention but tents and a certain other blogger with a tent obsession. I have no doubt he gets more traffic than I do but I get my share, make no mistake. I do get a lot of negative feedback on Occupy but there really actually is quite a lot of support. I mean, my boss reads the blog. She cut my FFWD article on Occupy out and stuck it to the wall in our office. A local politician posted a link to it on his fb page and told me he really enjoys reading it. On the blog as well I have lots of civil conversations with people who say they don't support the movement but they respect what I'm trying to do on there and they keep coming back to read it.

Each individual can only contribute as they are able. I'm doing my best.

It's people? Companies are made out of people? They're making our companies out of people! Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle for companies. You've gotta tell them. You've gotta tell them!

That's the thing though. Occupy Calgary is only spreading awareness that those 10-20 people downtown like holding a public space hostage and being really douchy about it. They are completely isolated from the rest of the city/country and practically nobody sympathizes with them.

Cut the ties and do your own thing. Provide a consistent message and move beyond awareness to doing. For the record, I think building community greenhouses/green areas is an excellent goal and is achievable.

To be frank, awareness is next to useless for effecting a real change.

Companies are made out of people.
Soylent Green is made out of people.
Soylent-Green is evil

Soylent-Green = Companies

Companies are evil.

Let me break this down for you in an honest, non-judgemental manner. You seem to be quite sharp, motivated and well intentioned. However you may currently have your wagon hitched to the wrong horse.

Now is the time to ask yourself "Does being associated with illegal squatting & media circuses at the court house help or hurt my cause? Is it helping or hindering my efforts to bring about change and raise awareness?"

The view from the outside is quite clear, but it's up to you personally to interpret the situation from where you're sitting.

Some would say "any publicity is good publicity", while others would say "our message is being drown out by static".

Props to the sweet Soylent Green reference also.

Yes. Some people are being douchy about it. I sort of try to work around those ones. There are also some people who are BRILLIANT. Like me! It's been a really interesting social experiment for me because I didn't know pretty much any of them when I decided to try to help out. I'm waiting to see what happens Friday before I make any decisions. It's kind of hard to walk away from the amount of work I've put in at this point.

I won't ever regret having been part of this as it has made me much more aware of things I never paid much attention to before. I really think the same can be said of a lot of people, whatever they think about the local segment of this movement as it currently stands. So awareness really is key though I agree it isn't very useful without action. I have some serious energy and ability and can get an awful lot done when I have something to focus on. Without the awareness raised by the global Occupy movement I'd still be focused on way smaller things. Now I am starting to cook up some real plans.

Mandi,

I know you likely missed it, thread was growing pretty quick there for a bit, but I would like you to respond to my earlier question.

I believe if people are going to make assertions, they should provide the evidence to back them up.

Thanks
