Your baby's not injured right now, is it?
I would call 911 instead of taking a course.

My wife and I took an infant CPR course at the Foothills Hospital. It was a one-day thing and it wasn't for certification. Text my wife and she'll probably remember the details of it.
Here's a tidbit I learned in the course five years ago - Kids are not supposed to eat whole grapes until they're like five or something. You have to quarter them until then as they're the perfect size to get lodged in their airway and kids choke on grapes all the time.

I took a course on this a few years back but I will post what I learned as I have now likely forgotten most of it and do you think this would just come to me if I had a situation like this come up
Baby CPR = if they are less than one : Push on centre of chest, open airway to neautral, check breathing for 10 seconds, use your fingers (middle and ring finger) straight up and down. 2 Puffs and 30 Compressions.
Airway obstrucation for baby = 30 then look 2. Put in recovery position and check breathing every 2 minutes.
Baby Choking = 5 back blows and 5 chest throws while holding the baby upside down.
AED = Don't use on babies
These are basic notes and obviously it is better to take the course to get a full understanding. I took it with the Alberta Health and Safety training Institute. Well worth it! Good reminder!

I phoned Healthlink since their search function on their website is a steaming pile. She gave me this handy website that has all the courses AHS offers. Thanks for the help everyone!

As a First Aid/CPR/AED instructor, I would go and get some hands on practice and some feedback from a trained professional.
Although I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to take the whole course (adults included) because what happens if baby's mommy is choking and you don't know what to do because you were focused on only learning skills that would help with baby?
And you can use an AED on infants. In all likelyhood, the AED won't register the need for a shock on an infant unless you have the pediatric pads (which you probabbly would only have in a health care setting). But anything that could possibly help a child you should try.
With new ILCOR guidelines coming into effect, I suggest everyone getting a refreher. Not alot of changes, but a couple.

This is the company I worked with this summer as a first aid instructor. Becky is a very skilled and extremely nice woman who I would highly recommend. Here is the details for their Family CPR course:

From my experience, do not teach to use an AED on infants. First, if there are no paediatric pads, 100% of the time it won't work, so you are just wasting time attaching the AED when you could be doing compressions. Second, only a small minority of infants go into VF, most of the time you don't feel a pulse because of breathing issues compromising the circulatory system, not because of a heart issue. Also, there are kids with sinus tachycardia that would be recognized as a shockable rhythm to a common AED, when they shouldn't be shocked.
Lastly, you always want to keep the skills as simple as possible, so adding in possibilities or "maybe will work" just adds to confusion when a layperson is caught in an emergency situation like this, so just simply stating only do CPR and no AED will give them more confidence to do the skill properly.

sigh.
I guess I should have brought my "finger quotations" out.
Would I teach this as a standard? No.
If someone asked if it was do-able; I would tell them what I just said.
Would I go into medical terminology to explain why and how? No. Like you said, these aren't medical professionals.
I just believe that people (sorry, forgot my fingers) "intelligent adults" deserve to have information if they ask for it and I like to correct people that are giving false information (ie: you can NEVER use an AED on an infant).
Obviously if this turns into a pissing contest, you will win because when I do it, it dribbles down my leg.

It's not very feasible to do the whole 2 day course again so we have been looking for something to bridge the gap, but so far-nuts. Would love to hear if anyone has found something. In person or even online?

Are you looking for a certificate in child-care first/aid CPR? I teach all types of first-aid/CPR courses but I live in Brooks. These are certification courses through the Red Cross. If you are interested in more info feel free to PM me.

Thanks 1_Flames_Fan! I'm not looking for certification. The whole thing was that I am already certified in First Aid, it's just that the course I took gears more towards work so when we got to the infant/child portion of the course, not as much time was spent as other parts. Just was looking for a brush up, so to speak.

Didn't you say you teach this? When I took the course it was pointed out to never use an AED on an infant under age 1. Unless something has changed in the last few years I would imagine this is still best practice. Who is giving out false information?
