This happened in calgary to an Oilers fan a few years ago. The link to the original article is dead but here are two links to the discussion. Glass houses folks.

The difference is that Oiler fan mouthed off a carload of guys while being drunk in public. I don't care if you're wearing a Mother Theresa jersey you're going to eat a beating when you mouth off a car load of guys. Him wearing an Oilers jersey had nothing to do with his beating.

Expand the list to something other than Stanley Cup. Perhaps to other sports. Boston had a curfews, parking restrcitions, capacity restricitions etc in place for game 7 and do for other major sporting events. There was a reason (hint: a riot happened when the Red Sox beat the Yankees in 2004. Police opened fire with pepper ball guns. A bystander died. Also numerous arrest in 2007 after winning the world series but no riots because they really upped the presence of officers in riot gear. The problem in Vancouver was a completely unprepared police force and city that made a really stupid decision to have that many people in one spot which is the opposite of what experienced cities do.) I was in Boston for games 3 and 4 and the police presence was, shall I say, significant even for those games. Shoulder to shoulder cops in riot gear at times in the immediate vicinity of the garden and surrounding bar area. Boston learned from the past. Vancouver didn't. Hopefully they have now.

Being in the same camp as Boston sports fans isn't exactly a good thing. They aren't known as M#######s for nothing.

so you are saying mouthing off at someone is deserving of an assault?

and also, you are certain that him wearing an Oilers jersey had nothing to do with it, but the two guys wearing the Stamps jersey's (where only one side of the story was told) got beaten only because of wearing their jerseys

so if it happens in Calgary, the people were asking for it

if it happens in Vancouver, terrible town filled with d-bags

just so I can be clear on your thought process

You just don't get it do you? Where did I say that them mouthing off was deserving of an assault? If you're going to argue like a 12-year-old there is no point in even arguing with you.

Okay, so what are you trying to say there then?

"I don't care if you're wearing a Mother Theresa jersey you're going to eat a beating when you mouth off a car load of guys."

That is what you said, so what was your intent with that bad boy? What point are you conveying. That by mouthing off to a carload of guys, which is a bad idea, he got what he had coming to him?

That mouthing off a bunch of guys in a car while being alone and drunk in the middle of the night is a bad idea. Is it really that hard to understand?
Does that mean I condone the guys jumping out of the car to beat him up? absolutely not, but that's what happens.

You know and I know that you know exactly what I was trying to say. You're smarter than that.

No, I really don't because the way you worded it sure reads a lot like "This got what was coming to him."

Anecdotal evidence I know, but in my life I have done a lot of partying, and never once have I come close to getting into trouble. However, I have a friend who has "been jumped" 4 or 5 times over the last few years. If you heard it from him, every single one of these attacks has been completely unprovoked. However, I have been out partying with him. He's an #######. It does not surprise me in the least that he has provoked/pissed off someone enough to get himself into a fight.

What I'm trying to say is, things like this very rarely happen. You think two guys from Calgary in Vancouver on Grey Cup weekend are acting completely civil at 2:30 in the morning? Especially with the amount of people that would be out and about at that time, and no one came to these guys defense? Come on.
I agree with every word of this, except for the misuse of the word "amount." the are usually two sides to every story. I've worn my jerseys into enemy territory and have...well, to be honest, i did have a problem in Montreal. I may be wrong.

That and you pretty much have to walk around with a group of people unless you want to get jumped
Celebrating implies you have something worth celebrating about.

It's funny how many of my friends in Vancouver have put their FB statuses to say grey cup makes up a bit for losing the stanley cup or celebrating the year in sports that saw Canucks in the final, now Lions win the Grey Cup.

Grasping for straws to feel better about losing Stanley I guess.

I don't even feel slightly better. It was a trophy I care very little about and little more than a glorified excuse to get annihilated.

Stanley's cup is the only one I want to see won. Schneider shall deliver it to me, oh yes.
