it's almost beyond belief how the terrible actions of what sounds like 4 people are extrapolated to judge an area of over a million people
Don't forget the Grey Cup riots of 1963 and 1966 along with the Stanley Cup riots of 1994 and 2011. It's a few generations of dbags. Not just 4 dbags from yesterday.

ya because there seems to be no history here. 2 stanley cup finals, 2 riots. countless stories of beatings and hooliganism. get real.
yes there are countless stories, just like there are stories in almost every other city
if someone can prove that statistically there are more of these types of stories in Vancouver than anywhere else I will accept that, until that happens, and as long as I keep seeing these types of stories pop up in almost every city in North America I will continue the belief that there are idiots in almost every city in the world

Well, are you going to sit there slack jawed or take his challenge!? Come on, prove it statistically! I'll be over here looting a TV and punching the odd Oiler fan.

Show me where else they are riots after Stanley Cup losses every time on a consistent basis?

its almost beyond belief how people from the vancouver area are in such collective denial over the hotbed of hooliganism in their home. get real. its like saying to a rape victim they were asking for it, what, wearing such a provocative outfit.
Except nothing like that at all.

I don't know why it is and I haven't collected statistics to back it up, but a large proportion of fan d'baggery I've witnessed has involved Canucks fans. Even my wife - (she's English and loves Vancouver) couldn't believe what a bunch of boneheads follow the Canucks from her experiences of watching the last series against the Canucks in Banff bars.
It is only anecdotal evidence, but from my limited experience there appears to be something going on and there is an unhealthy hooligan element within the Vancouver sports fans community. At best you could call them idiots with their laser pointers, throwing clothing on the ice during play (that led to a goal for them) fighting, rioting and all around d'baggery.
Granted, the numbers engaging in this type of activity are in the minority, but it seems to be a bigger or more prominent minority than elsewhere. You cannot ignore it because it is tarnishing the image of Vancouver and the more the people of Vancouver pretend it isn't there or isn't a problem, the bigger the problem becomes.
edit: I realise the OP is not a hockey related incident - I'm just making a general comment

I am in Vancouver for the Grey Cup and there are fans from every team want wearing their teams jerseys. While it is possible that it was an idiot Vancouver resident, it is equally likely that it is an idiot Stamps fan. Actually the only jersey I have yet to see today is a Lions jersey. I don't think anyone here cares too much about the football game
I was downtown Vancouver Saturday night all I saw was Lions Jerseys
I find it shocking that an entire city, and every citizen in it, can be unanimously conditioned towards commiting violent acts. It is such an anomoly in an other words peaceful country like ours. I really wonder how long until the city is officially labelled as "Most violent city in the world". I find it troubling, knowing that such a violent, and dangerous place, is merely 1100 kms away from our beautiful, and peaceful prairie utopia.
