(2011/2012) Outdoor skating rinks in Calgary
Just looking for updates on the outdoor skating rinks in Calgary, i.e. Bowness, Olympic Plaza, Eau Claire, etc. I know the city of Calgary website gives a bit of an idea of when they will be open, but it has been cold enough that I think some would be ready early.
So if anybody frequents some areas that have an outdoor rink, maybe they could post that they are open for business.

I'm really upset that it seems like they will not be putting up any boards for the new rink in Braeside!

Any other updates? Specifically in the SE or southern part of NE.

Skaters were on the ice and shooting pucks on November 20, 2011 at Highwood (central NW) - next couple of days will be tough on the ice though.

Took a drive last night (November 23, 2011) and can report the following for central NW...
Highland Park - no ice and probably not going this year due to community association troubles
North Haven - no flooding yet
Cambrian Heights -no flooding yet and still looking for ice maker
Rosemont (in Confederation Park) - some minor flooding, long ways from being skateable
Rosedale - unknown
Capitol Hill - were flooding last night, long ways from being skateable
Highwood - had about 2-3 inches of ice down, will have to recover from this chinook now
Collingwood - unknown
Mount Pleasant outdoor - no flooding yet

The ice at Olympic Plaza must almost be ready. There is a bunch of people camping out in anticipation.

With the weather the way it has been I doubt we'll see a ton of rinks open. And if they are the ice will be crap.
Typically need about a week of around -10 or colder.

Nice temperatures are good, no outdoor rinks is bad. Such a dilema.
I'll be volunteering and organizing the volunteers for the Copperfield rink when it gets to the right temperature so we can get out there and start building the ice layers. If you live in the area and would like to help let me know if you didn't attend the volunteer meeting we had a couple weeks ago.

just check banff trail, triwood, northhaven.
banff trail: starting to flood. it was already flooded a week ago and ice didnt completely melt.
triwood: lots of bumps, thou theres a small patch of ice thats smooth.
northhaven: grassy patches, still not flooded from last week after ice started to melt and small bumps, not as big as the bumps in triwood thou.

I am not sure if its wise at all for you to make anything kid related .... Especially after the free candy idea you tried getting off the ground.
