I don't have any stories from family from the wars as neither of my Grandfathers spoke of their experiences. This day has always been important to me as I have always been proud and grateful for the sacrifice of so many that allow me to have the life I live today.
This year however, I am overwhelmed with such profound gratitude and respect as I watched my baby boy peacefully sleep last night. He will never have to grow up faced with oppression or tyranny thanks to the incredible sacrifices made by these brave men and women. I am so deeply, deeply grateful and so proud to be Canadian. Thank you to all who have fallen and to all who still stand.
Lest we forget

The constant combat had been telling on McKnight and he was admitted to hospital in July 1940 to recuperate. He had lost 27 lb (12 kg) in weight and was clearly suffering from sleep deprivation as well as a host of other ailments including stomach problems. While in hospital, he openly fretted over a squadron mate, P/O Stan Turner overhauling him as the top scorer.
Let's just call a spade a spade, and say veterans are bad-ass mother-effers.

I managed to attend the ceremony at the Museum of the Regiments today. It was the first time in a lot of years I got to go. It was a touching experience. When I see those vets, I feel such an incredible amount of pride. Even though Americans will tell you otherwise, Canadians were some of the biggest badasses on the good guys side, and for our meagre little country, to be such a huge player in WW2, is simply amazing to me. Especially now that we are such a weak military.
My grandfather was a soldier in the Polish Cavalry and served in the Polish-Boshevik war, unfortunately he died many years before I was born, but it would have been awesome to hear war stories from him, especially about fighting a 20th century war, on a horse.
I will leave this here. This is one of my favourite little videos. I believe the kid is actually dutch, but getting 'eyes right' is probably the biggest honour you can receive:
