Hah yeah I think I'll just get a new receiver. It sucks because I can't bring myself to buy a cheap one. I want sirius/bluetooth/airplay/7.1 dammit.

^you can get into that around the $600 mark.

Or forego the airplay, drop the price to the $300 mark, and use an apple tv for airplay.

There's a Sirius / Bluetooth / 7.1 amp for $300?

NM. I was thinking the Pioneer VSX-30 (soundsaround had a demo sale for $350) or the Denon 1612.
However The VSX needs an adapter for bluetooth which is $100. And it's the 1912 that has bluetooth, not the 1612. Which goes back up to the $600 range.

My bad.

Man, it's been a while since I've shopped for receivers. What they do is now almost completely different than what the last one I bought could do.

(The last one I bought didn't even switch composite video)

Mick, get:

This receiver: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Yamaha-HTR506...item43a7aa5aa8

This Bluetooth module: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Brand-New-Yam...item3a6aa95e79

For $400, you get Bluetooth for your iDevice, 3D capability if you decide to upgrade your TV to support it, four HDMI inputs, 7.1 audio.

No, there's no Sirius without a separate receiver and no, there's no AirPlay. But with the Bluetooth, you don't need AirPlay. Simply buy a Bluetooth dongle for your PC and pair the PC with the Yamaha (you can have multiple devices), then tell the PC to use the Bluetooth device as your speakers. Ta-da. And you have the added benefit of not being married to iTunes.

I have the same Bluetooth module, and I have a Yamaha HTR-6250b amp (which isn't even as good as the one I'm suggesting you get) and this all works without an issue.

What is your HTR-6250b lacking that the one you suggested has?

I don't really need 7.1. I've got an AppleTV2 with AirPlay so I don't even need that - I'm just trying to cut down on the number of devices I'm using.

Out of curiosity, what are you using the bluetooth for?

Both Airplay & bluetooth would be used just for streaming audio easily (from Mac or iOS devices). Airplay's preferred so I can stream video as well but it's not a huge deal.

My 6250b isn't 3D-Ready, and it only has banana plug connectors for the front towers - everything else uses those annoying spring-loaded clips.

If you don't need 7.1, this model has everything the other one has except 7.1, but you get an extra 15 watts per channel. And it's a hundred bucks cheaper. So now you get your Bluetooth and HDMI receiver for ~$300.

Kind of what I assumed. So either or would work, you don't nessesarily need both? IMO for that price range I'd get a basic 7.1 (vs the 5.1) AVR and use the ATV (or bluetooth dongle). As far as reducing clutter with devices, the ATV can be mounted behind the TV and you'd never know it's there.

With airplay being so new it'll be a bit before the amps drop in price.

I don't think the third-party receivers even do video over AirPlay yet, that's an Apple TV exclusive for now. Future ones will, but you'll be looking at big bucks for them when they are finally released.

Gah I did not know that. Looks like I'm keeping the ATV2 around. Thanks.
