A quality opinion piece from a Fox writer.

Where's the Outrage Over Occupy Protesters' High-Tech Intimidation of Police?

I've had Anonymous on my twitter feed ever since lulzsec was making daily headlines with their hacks around the globe, as I was interested in reading up on them. (Please, lets not derail this thread about the hacks, lulzsec, etc). It's been my experience that Anonymous (or AnonyOps, more commonly) has only called for doxing on occupy police after incidents of excessive force have been caught/revealed/etc. It wasn't until much news and fanfare about the pepper spray incident in NYC, that the call for doxing went out. Now, I'm not saying this is the only source where doxing requests came from, but the article only references anonymous and so that is where my perspective is coming from.

So that makes it ok to harass their families?

And who makes the determination of what is "excessive force"?

Quality? Fox Writer? in the same sentence? Now Ive heard it all. High tech intimidation, by what? Using their voices? gimme a break. They sure as hell aren't carrying pepper spray, clubs, or tear gas.

I did. The bottom line is the police can take pictures of whoever they want and put them on a database, even if they are innocent. So if they wanna talk about high-tech intimidation, well it goes both ways. This is just the neo-con media with another attempt at undermining and bashing the occupy movement. And furthermore with the Mikey comment, you can get "bent"

Wow... very clever play on words.

Tell me, what do you know about what police take pictures of? Do you know how they are stored or how they are used? So do you know what happens to photos of persons acquitted of crime(s)?

I can guarantee you that the police do not take pictures of family members of persons involved in crime. Nor do they release any of the photos/information of those accused unless there is a public safety issue.

So clearly, you are talking out your a$$. Do some research before you make yourself look like a dummy.

Typically, doxing only involves releasing the information, not what is done after with the information. What anyone does with the information after that point is anyone's guess. However it is not something I discussed in my previous post, nor did I express an opinion on the matter, just my observations on when the doxing occurred.

Well, in the case that I used with the pepper spray, anyone with half a brain, really. I'm sure you have something to say about that, though.

I am not getting into your tiff that you have now.

But I do think that if we have a right to assemble and a right to protest I do not think that the police have a right to photograph me/others on the chance that their might be a crime.
I get that maybe they are going to put this in a facial recognition software program and look for trouble makers but that also means that they are checking me out too and I have done nothing wrong to justify this. I do hope that pictures are destroyed after this is all over.

Perhaps I have given up my right to privacy if I protest in public but if they are checking on who people are before guilt I don't think that is right.

While I get your point, the fact is, i don't think the police can sit back and not be proactive in identifying those that may not be there for a peaceful occupation/protest. Does that mean some people that are truly there for "the cause" may be photographed and investigated? Sure, but it kind of comes with the territory doesn't it?

You realize it is perfectly legal to take pictures of anyone in public. Law enforcement or not.

What I am getting at is the use of said information to harass and disrupt the lives of those uninvolved or to jeopardize personal safety.

Sure you can hide behind the, "we just release the info, what someone else does with that is beyond our control"... but you and I both now that's a load of crap.

And this would be the crux that seperates our opinions.

Personal safety, hey? Kinda like what happens when a police officer maces you for no reason? Thought so.

Someone has died at occupy Vancouver today. Shortly after, the punk group DOA(dead on arrival) played their scheduled concert at the protest.

A woman, who is believed to be in her 20s, died Saturday afternoon at the Occupy Vancouver encampment in what Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services are calling a "medical emergency."

Witnesses said the woman may have died of a heroin overdose, but police and rescue officials were unsure of the cause of death.

There's a list of demands posted for "Occupy Canada" - while some of them are reasonable a lot are either unrealistic, anti-science, or downright silly.

Right, which is pretty well in-line with what they've been about this whole time.

It is pretty hard to seriously believe that this is a protest when most of the people are continuously stoned, drunk or otherwise inebriated and increasingly, in the US, violent. Supposedly the abuse inside of the OWS camp has gotten to the point where they have set up a women's only part.

If this was really about unfairness of the bailout. Why are they not dogging the guy who happily handed them all that money and benefits the most from their largesse?
