Thank you. It is nice to see there is still some younger people that actually understand the monumental sacrifices this day symbolizes.
To this day, it boggles my mind the time and respect we give to a magic flying fat man, and an anthropomorphic rabbit that delivers chocolate, fictional fantasy characters. Yet we have these amazing veterans, that saw horrors we could never imagine in our lifetimes, and their sacrifice is boiled down to a furniture sale, or a binge drinking event to a huge segment of the population.
It is sad. Even the company I work for is guilty, and I now have burn off a vacation day every year, so I can attend a ceremony and pay my respect, since they have oped to trade remembrance day on our holiday schedule, for the oh so important Boxing Day. It's pathetic.

Fine fair enough. But I do go to bars in Ottawa and like I said would refuse to go to one if they did something so stupid. I imagine there are people within the young bar crowd in Calgary who happen to agree, is all that my point was intended to be.

If your definition of success is staying open, then fine - your point is taken. But I'm going to chalk it up to letting in under-age teenagers in, the back-scratching through drug deals and the other goofy stuff that goes on in there. And I must have been there about 20 times in my life because it opened up pretty much when I turned 18 - and I stopped going at about 22. I've seen it all in that establishment over the years.
Basically what I'm saying is that it's not a squeaky clean place - which in my books, I wouldn't consider a 'successful' business model by any means other than they're still around, which is the point your making.

Fair enough, the point I was trying to make, is that from the few times I was there when I was younger, the type of people who go there, aren't the type who would really give 2 craps.

Okay, I understand  . With this post and the one OzyFlame just made I think I get the idea of the regular clientele. Although, I would think the point of making radio ads would be to try and try and reach out to other demographics, and I think this kind of ad is not a very good way of accomplishing that.

Ignoring the moral responsibility of a business that Ozy is raising, if you've got a niche in the market cornered where your business is doing pretty well, you wouldn't be wise to go changing it. It's not like there's room for explosive growth by altering the clientele.
I just find it interesting how different people view the moral/ethical responsibilities of business, we see it all the time with otherwise reputable oil/mineral companies getting caught up in bribery cases overseas. We'd like to think that the line is black and white, but the reality of situation is it's all a giant grey zone.

So by that logic, the Roadhouse is A-OK to continue using Remembrance Day as a ploy to get people in to drink because they'll probably make a good chunk of money? That's essentially what you're saying here.

I'm not surprised that Amp has stooped this low.
They are the same radio station that gave a pair of boobs away over the summer in their "Breast Summer Ever" contest, to a trans-sexual over a cancer survivor. They then justified it saying that the votes were in favor of the trans-sexual.
If only the public knew the truth. The whole thing was rigged from the start.
So no...I'm not surprised that Amp went down this road. Not surprised that the Roadhouse went down this road. Nothing is sacred anymore.
Oh, and Buzz...I know you read CP. You should be ashamed of DJing for this radio station.

He took care of it for me. Not surprised at all to see that toilet bowl of a station not even thinking twice before running garbage like that. Has there been any twitter backlash on it? If so did they get Buzz to start the spin machine up again just like the "breast summer ever" scenario?
Edit: Buzz can't spin for them this time, he's on XL103 now.

On November 11 I will be at a Rememberance Day celebration, not hung over, and I certainly won't have been at the Roadhouse the night before.
I will also be remembering my Grandfather who died on November 10, 2009 who was a WWII veteran and saw many of his best friends get blown to bits, not to mention the 158 Canadians who have given their lives in Afghanistan and the numerous injured from that war.

I don't think we 30,40 and some of the 50 years old crowd on here can claim a moral high ground on Nov 11. There is a massive chunk of people from our age groups that care little about it too.
I think sometimes that respect for our vets is something some people mature into and eventually understand.
