As funny as Simpsons and Family Guy were/are/whatever, Futurama was always awesome because its humour made no apologies for being smart.

Announcer: [on loudspeaker] And it's a dead heat! They're checking the electron microscope. And the winner is ... [A man holds up a "3" in a window.] ... number 3, in a quantum finish.
Farnsworth: No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it.

Exactly, and at the same time had some of the dumbest/crudest lines too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Cut to Fry walking into the bathroom. He looks at the "Tastee Snacks 'N' Prophylactics" vending machine above the toilet. It has a choice of ALDEBARAN TICKLES 50c, BREAKABLE COMB 75c and "FRESH" EGG SALAD SANDWICH 25c.

He takes the egg salad sandwich. He walks back to the ship where he unwraps the sandwich and is about to eat it.

Bender: What's that black cracker?

Fry: [Bites into it] A tomato.

Leela: You're not going to eat a sandwich from a truck stop men's room, are you?

Fry: Ah, what's the worse thing that could happen? [Bites the sandwich] Ugh! It's a like a party in my mouth and everyone's throwing up.

Futurama. The BEST cartoon ever.

The only reason I can think of why it never got itself a bigger audience is because when it came out, people wanted more of the Simpsons. You know, the kind of jokes that are blatant instead of clever.

Bender is the funniest character on TV, IMO. Second would be Brian from Family Guy.

I need to learn how to download tv shows. I miss futurama.

Yep, even episodes that I've seen a number of times make me laugh out loud. Like last night's Teletoon episode where Luur (sp?) wanted to harvest Fry's "man-horn." And Bender coming up with the one liners every time somebody said something about it.

It always kills me when later in that same episode the crew gets shrunk down and injected into Fry's body, Zoidberg comes riding in on a sperm and goes "Hey everybody, guess where I've been?!"

I thought I was the only one that thought Futurama was better than the Simpsons/Family Guys. Glad to see I'm not alone. As mentioned there's smart humour (like when the cyclops is looking through the telescope and estimates the missle is a trillion kilometers away and it lands right behind him (since he has no depth perception)) and crude humour (as above).

I think Lurr and Zapp Bra*****n are the funniest characters. Great show.

Editted for grammar

I'm guessing he missed one of the N's. That would turn it into a racial slur.

Almost. I put two g's, which adds a racial slur in the middle of the name.

I thought I was the only one who almost cried as Fry's dog waits for him outside the Pizza place.

All the same, this was one of the wittiest shows ever, the only one I can watch re-runs of til the proverbial cows come home.

Leela: Everyone's too polite to say anything, but you're covered in bed sores!
Fry: Not COVERED....

I always get a good laugh out of the episode where he uses his debit card and with all the Interest he's rich and he buys the apartment with the old tv and everything, the scene where he puts the cd in the player and does the little hand movment thing. that was great

I didn't discover it until long after it had been cancelled and reduced to teletoon reruns, and now it's one of my favorite shows. The writing is exceptional, and they seemed to be doing a great job of moving the story forward, unlike the Simpsons.
